I recently installed the X-Ice snow tires and they already saved me money. While driving during our first snow storm this season, the driver in front of me stopped suddenly to avoid a deer. Traction control was on and I was in "slippery" mode. I really don't think I would have been able to avoid a collision if I hadn't had the snow tires. The tires ride and handle great. $700 well spent.

I am glad you posted this. I think so many only consider going forward in snow and ice conditions hence the AWD preference. While this is certainly important, I feel it is more important to be able to stop and have good lateral traction to negotiate turns. That's where dedicated snow tires shine and make it worth the investment.

My X-Ice tires saved me from deer in a snowstorm an hour ago as well. Near white-out conditions on the hwy and 2 deer are standing still blocking my lanes.

lol....you should've asked what kind of tires the car in front of you was running if he was able to "stop suddenly"..... 😲

Same reason I have snows, Blizzak ws 90 Stopping is the key. Plus keep fartgher back when it snows. Then if I have to stop fast I look behind me to see if I will be rear ended and am ready to accelerate to the side. Saved me once in the past different vehicle.

WHAT HAPPENED? Did you (a) stop in time, before hitting the car, or (b) maneuver AROUND the car, missing it and the deer.

Recently got the same. No emergency snow ice stops, so far,, but do far great on hiway travel snowpak some slush . Agree on ride, really little/no difference from stock hiways

I’m a huge fan of running dedicated snow tires in the wintertime as well. Not so much for (deep) snow itself, as the hybrid Mav won’t be busting through 3-foot banks left by the city plow. It’s undercarriage isn’t exactly the most stout. Rather, the tires are for more general slippery conditions in slush or on ice packed roads, as we often have stretches where you can’t see pavement for a few days. That, and our town has a 600-foot elevation change from one side to the other. Traction is important when the day’s high is -4F. Oh wait, I don’t even want to leave the house on days like this!

My favorite snows are Blizzaks including the WS90 and DM-V2, and my current tire, the Nokian Hakkapeliitta R5.

I'm with you on it! For general winter driving I'd rather be in FWD with good snow tires than AWD or even 4WD with stock all-seasons. Coming from F-150 and Ranger which had Blizzaks.

I don’t think AWD or any tires would make a difference if it were ice. The laws of physics dictate an object in motion will remain in motion until ‘kaboom!!!’ Most people are under the impression that AWD will protect them in conditions such as this. That is a false sense of security. Maintain proper distance and drive under the posted speed limit are keys.

I run dedicated winter tires. It's the only way to go. As said it improves steering and more importantly stopping. The ice tire technology nowadays is crazy. Nokian hakas are awesome

Plenty of test done by Tire Rack on a ice rink. Makes it less than HALF the distance to stop on pure ice skating rink. . So not so sure on this.

I have my first set of X Ice on my truck and am impressed. I had to chuckle this morning coming home from the store. I had to follow a newer Colorado, lifted with big ass AT tires that extended a few inches past its fenders. Ever stop light as it would start out, the rear end would kick out towards the curb (due to road crown I suspect) while I just drove straight ahead. Those dumb enough to think the aggressive looking huge AT tires are any competition to real Snow/ice tires deserve the hassles that go along with their poor choices.
