XL hybrid with 30 bags of Scott’s 1.5 cu ft lawn soil. Estimated weight to be 40-50 lbs per bag, possibly more…squatted down a bit in the back, ride and handling ok (under 40mph for 8 mile drive home) but brakes did not feel adequate. After less than a mile, got a warning light that the pre-crash front facing camera was not operational (assumed it was pointed too high)

Quick update on the warning light (pre-crash front facing camera not operational). Camera /module appears to be fried, unrelated to payload, but waiting for parts to be replaced under warranty.

Taking a conservative 40lbs per bag gives you 1200lb. Add in your self and you're getting close to capacity. If the bags are 50lbs. then it's no wonder the front end was up and brakes weren't adequate.

Coincidence or not. I had the same issue with my camera after I squated my truck a bit with a heavy load in the bed. Just last week. Happened within 5 miles of driving. Ford said the module is fried and needs replaced.

Or if the bags are 30# each, as stated on the label of said bags, then he is under a thousand pounds.

Those bags can vary in weight depending on if they are wet or not. If dry and fluffy 30# is accurate. But if they are left out in the weather and get wet...........

They are almost always within 5% of 30#. This is regulated so that trucking and material handling is predictable. You don't want to load a pallet to a certain weight, and have it grow on you.

Also, the bags are waterproof plastic, the only moisture added is through tiny wear holes, and even then, it would need nearly 3 gallons of water to get to 50#, which is not something that happens. The soil is not 40% water.

That's pretty wild- wonder if it's doing extra work while it's pointed up a bit higher- so it burns itself out?...

Actually I have sold that product for many years. Pallets of it every year. If you leave it out in the weather it gets wet, through those tiny little holes. Not right away but it does. When they arrive on the truck weight is pretty guaranteed. But let them sit in the yard and that pallet can be close to double the weight.
Peat moss (the primary component) can hold up to 10x its weight it water. That's why it is used in most potting soils.
Most times they sell fast enough it doesn't matter but this time of year if the pallet has been sitting out since spring they can get heavy.

A camera dying, because, it was, doing more work, because, it was tilted up 3-5 degrees for 15 minutes?

"Ford said the module is fried"- meaning maybe not the camera but the computer module. I wouldn't be surprised at all- parts are designed for a certain use but if it's got tons of data coming in it doesn't expect, may be doing all kinds of weird things. Then works overtime and burns out.

Of course it could be 100,000% coincidence, too. We'll find out later on. :)
