This will be my first ever major vehicle purchase, so I want to get it right.

On one hand, I have an AWD XL Maverick with a deposit on it that will be here in just a couple weeks, and in the other, I have the opportunity to get an XL SXT 4WD 2021 Ranger with just 2500 miles on it for just $30,000. I’m quite stuck on which to pick, so I’m hoping maybe you all can help.

I do haul quite a lot, as I do a lot of landscaping and have a lot of animals, but I would also eventually like to get a boat or camper to tow around.

I’m 23, so I need something that will be reliable, as I do not have a huge flow of cash. This was the main reason I started considering the Ranger over the Maverick.

Iā€˜d like good fuel efficiency, but it seems both the 2 liter and 2.3 liter turbos range in the low-mid 20s in efficiency.

I drove the Ranger and the Maverick, and I loved the way the Ranger drove. I felt like the king of the road. The Maverick drove more similarly to my Kia Soul, which I love, but it didn’t impress me much. Maybe I just didn’t drive the Maverick long enough, though. I drove the Ranger 40 miles, and only 10 in the Maverick.

Can anyone help me make a decision, put my fears of reliability to rest, or disagree with any of my statements?

The Ranger would probably give you a better towing experience. Sound like you want it, get it.

What cab is the Ranger?

The STX is an excellent value package.

I would get the ranger, sounds more suited to what you need.

I read your post twice. It's pretty clear to me that you want the Ranger and it sounds like it fits your current and future needs better. Plus it sounds like you're getting a killer deal on it.

If you have towing or hauling to do, I can't remember hearing anyone say I wish I had bought a smaller truck and gotten less power.

Just a note that the Maverick and ranger are nowhere near the same efficiency. I averaged 20.5 over 14000 miles in my fx4 ranger.

After 2 tanks in my mav I'm at 28.3mpg calculated. 3rd tank over 150 miles so far is above 29mpg on the dash reading. That is in the neighborhood of 40 percent better fuel economy after over 1000 miles.

If you are regularly going to use it as a real pick up truck - for towing and hauling, get the Ranger

As you can see in my Avatar I have a Ranger with the STX trim. It's a great truck. If you want to tow, and, and do landscaping the bed of the Ranger is some bigger. And, believe me that "some" bigger will make a difference. And, towing capability between the 2 goes without saying. As others have said I think you're leaning towards the Ranger. If that's what your gut is telling you, it's a good idea to listen. Good luck on your decision.
