I fully understand the bind Ford is to get vehicles built and delivered. So this isn't a rant, but rather a game plan.

My company decided to end the company vehicle program in the absolute worst time. LOL

I ordered a Maverick XL hybrid- CP360, Rear window, tow hitch On Oct. 22 with a build confirmation.

As of today, no news from ford and my company car deadline is April 1.

My question?
Should I
1. Wait it out and hope I get a build date soon for delivery?
2. look for a lucky local dealer with a stock unit either 2.0/2.5 that fits my budget
3. No chance, buy something else?

Wondering what this group would do in my situation.

Thanks in advance!

I’d wait until the end of March. If you still don’t have your Maverick, buy something else off the lot. Or order something else now (with a refundable deposit) for late-March delivery, and then bail if your truck arrives first.

Does the company lease the vehicles and have to turn them in on April 1st? If no, ask if you can lease or pay them until your vehicle arrives.

1. You are not getting a build date and delivery by April 1. Your vehicle is too constrained much like my build (nearly identical).

2. 2.0EB (There is no 2.5) - is that what you want? Are you buying the Maverick because it's a trucklet or a hybrid? If you want the Hybrid - the EB won't suffice.

3. Seems like the same answer as #2. Do you want the hybrid or the truck? or is it the combo of both? If it's the combo of both you have no choice but to wait.

2. I want the price and the truck... 2.0 EB AWD with gas still fits in the budget but not as well.

3. I want the truck, but want the hybrid combo more..

The hybrid is a 2.5 liter Atkinson engine

Check the threads from yesterday. Somebody posted two Lariat Hybrids at a Florida dealership. May be able to get one right away if they are still available.

While its possible you may receive a hybrid before April 1st the odds are not in your favor. If you haven't received a built email by Feb 15 its not going to happen. Personally I would be talking to the dealer to make a deal for a EB and giving them the hybrid

Correct and there are no dealer stock Hybrids

So the OP said 2.0/2.5 I assumed he thought there was more than the EB or Hybrid drivetrain options.

I had a chance to buy an XL 2.0EB AWD from the dealer and declined.

For me, it is the combination of the three - trucklet form (utility), price, and efficiency.

The EB AWD significantly impacts the last two - and for me just doesn't make the Maverick desirable anymore.

Do you mean they would build an EB from scratch to be here by April 1?

I'm sure you could buy one today if your willing to pay 5-10K above sticker, even a new one at a dealer.

This is not just a Ford thing. I ordered a new Subaru in October and only knew it was in when the dealer called me and said come get it.

I would base your decision on the estimated delivery date they gave you and wait until you get the same call.

No but the chance of getting a stock unit is much greater. Also a possiblity that the dealer would make a nice deal with getting a hybrid to sell at whatever price they want

I see you are in Michigan (me too) there’s a few dealerships that have both gas & hybrids available but they go quick and it’s only because they were ordered and didn’t take delivery and yes some dealerships have ADM/marked up others do not… you can wait a little longer to see if’s you get lucky build 🙄 but also start getting on dealership call lists (that’s how I got my eco boost a few months ago but I really wanted a hybrid)

#1- do NOT link the purchase of your Maverick and your company vehicle program in ANY way. Treat them as 2 separate transactions, each with their own pros and cons and timelines. This will greatly simplify and clarify your thinking and planning. Also takes the pressure off.

#2- If it was me, I would let the hybrid order play out until the day the dealer calls and tells you it's on the lot waiting for you. The worst that can happen is you decline to take delivery and walk away from it because you found something else suitable while you were waiting. It costs you Zero $.

#3- if you had a plan B or C, etc. for a different vehicle, start researching and looking for deals on those vehicles you could buy before company deadline. Include searching for Mavericks that might pop up the entire time. If you find 1 act immediately and buy it. Then you have options of keeping the new vehicle (hopefully Maverick) or trading it in on your Hybrid when it finally arrives. Or sell it to Carvana, etc. after you take delivery of the Maverick. You got options here.

Best case is you get the hybrid you want from 1 source or another with little change to your budget after the dust settles, and worst case is you didn't get your dream car but used the company plan and make another run at hybrid later on.

BTW: have you actually sat in and test driven a Maverick? If not, Do it before putting all your eggs in the Maverick basket. Some people actually haven't liked them enough for whatever reason to complete purchase of their order and walked away.

I would be shocked if you had that truck in April. I ordered my hybrid in June and it isn't even built yet.
