I'm just curious. Both Ford and Toyota use a 2.5 Atkinson engine in the Maverick and RAV4 hybrids respectively. Combined hp in the Maverick hybrid is 191 and the RAV4 is 219. Is the 28 hp difference the result of the electric motor used by Toyota vs Ford? Or, is the 2.5 gas engine tuned differently in the RAV4?

Different motors entirely. The Mavericks 2.5L gas engine (originally designed and built by Mazda in the 2000s) alone only puts out 155HP. The 2025 Maverick Hybrid with AWD uses a rear differential connected to the transmission. The Toyota 2.5L engine (their own design) alone puts out 199HP. The RAV4 Hybrid has dual electric motors, one on the front axle and one on the rear. This of course greatly affects the combined HP ratings of both vehicles.

If Toyota would have put the Rav4 hybrid drivetrain into a Taco (or even better the Rav4 Prime drivetrain), I'd have bought it.
I don't need more power than a 2.5L hybrid and want the mpg. Mav is close enough for me (and cheap when I bought it at least).

Both of the 2.5s are great engines and get great mpg. Similar 0-60 times for Rav and Mav hybrids too, actually.
