That won't happen. Low speed/high load acceleration uses a different power path.... you might run into trouble when the electric drive motor runs out of battery ...
Below ~40 mph, you're in "series mode." The ICE runs the generator, and the resulting current turns the traction motor to move the vehicle.
ICE --> charging motor --> current --> traction motor --> acceleration.
That's a very good thing, because the traction motor has lots more torque than the ICE, and it's always in 1st gear, so something north of 10x torque multiplication at the axel.
10% grade is not a challenge for my Escape Hybrid; your Maverick will have more power.
