First time off tarmac on my brand new (less than two week old) mav Fx4 and I put a hole in the plastic at the front bumper - in front of the passenger tire.

Navigating a rock in the road and was just gonna ride the tire up and over it.

Plastic bumper had other ideas and now it has a hole.

Looking at it side by side with my Subaru cross trek it appears the crosstrek has more clearance up front.

That's kind of a problem for a truck. And so is a plastic bumper that tears open at the slightest bump from something harder than it.

Anyone know of any aftermarket front end bumper covers that are more off-pavement worthy?

Nope.

Level/lift and/or remove the front wheel air dams.

You could add a Tremor bumper if you ever find one, but that's the reality of this setup... it's low with lots of rake. Going up a tire size or two helps as well.

If I recall, Tremor has a unique radiator & supports that render its bumper incompatible with regular FX4, so swapping would likely take some modding. Best bet is lift, remove front aero spats, go up in tire size and accept it’ll still not be great. I have the HRG Off-road skidplate on mine as well and it definitely took a rock a couple weeks back on a trail drive that would have damaged the plastic center section of the bumper.

Does the air dam really do anything? I took it off my 13' silverado and don't notice anything. And it looks better.

Would be nice if all Mavericks came with the tremor front end.

The first person to move that intercooler up where that big plastic piece behind the engine is and put a giant scoop on the hood wins all the Maverick credit! Then we could really get some good approach angles. I still wish that guy who made the tucked aluminum rear bumper would have shared more details on here. If this truck can be armored and get its angles it could really be the base level of budget offroading for this era. Much like the Bronco II and the twin traction beam Rangers were simply amazing off-road.
