Finally, I've got around to install it. I didn't really follow the direction, the high level instruction via internet search and by cneth (thx) was good enough for me. I did remove the OBD port and that wasn't that easy. The nut closer to the fender doesn't have much room at all, one sixth turn with the open end 8mm wrench.

The procedure was pretty simple:
  1. install the box, including securing it behind the panel
  2. sit in the truck and close the door
  3. push start for accessory mode and wait until it loads up
  4. push lock/unlock on the door panel
  5. shut off accessory mode
  6. exit and lock the door
  7. start the engine with the key fob and test the security system
Starting the engine with the key fob worked from the house, about 30-40 feet, more than enough for my needs. Activated the alarm by banging gently on the steering wheel and lifting any of the handles.

The security system can be activated by the key fob, just a single press on the "lock" activates it after about 20 seconds. The keyless entry on the door handle also activates/deactivates the security system, no need to lock/unlock by the key fob.

The next step is to get the light and mount it on the dash, it's less than 15 bucks, should've got it when i ordered the box. Oh well...

Thanks everyone for your help...

It seemed easy to order an LED Anti-Theft Flasher Vehicle Security System (DM5Z19D596A) for the Ford Perimeter Plus VSS (KN1Z19A361A), but that's not the case.

While the KN1Z19A361A fits my '23 Maverick, also fits 2022 Maverick, the DM5Z19D596A does not:

Ford Maverick Maverick fob remote start... nogo

The website doesn't even allow this item to be added to the shopping cart. On the other hand it does fit the 2022 Maverick; how does that make sense?

After adding the 2022 Maverick to my garage and adding the flasher ($15), the system also added installation to the shopping cart:

Ford Maverick Maverick fob remote start... flasher

There's no way to purchase this item from Ford without installation. Ford is happy to sell me the the Perimeter Plus VSS and let me install it by myself, but let me install the flasher by myself is not allowed. Really Ford, how does that make sense?

Does anyone know what so special about the flasher? AFAICS, the Perimeter Plus has a socket on for the flasher, where it plugs in.

I can order one from some dealers, takes 2-3 weeks to arrive, with shipping cost about the same as the flasher. I am ok with that, but started to wonder, will it actually work? Or maybe just leave out the flasher with all of these loops I'd need to jump through...

Thx...

I've seen it on Ebay, but the seller's list for fit does not include the Maverick. The light on Ebay also looks different from OEM Ford parts light:

Ford Maverick Maverick fob remote start... VSS flasher

The Ford Parts store fit list has both the '22 and the '23 Maverick. Everywhere you look, they list the same part #, may or may not fit and looks different in the picture.

It's just annoying that Ford Accessories website:
a) Does not list the '23 Maverick for fit
b) Could not buy it without installation charges

I assure you it fits, looks like the above picture + it works!
- and it's currently installed on my Maverick (cheaper too).

Just ran out to my truck:

Thx for the video...

I was hoping that you already found a location to drill the hole for the light, oh well, I will...

The color of the flasher's cap is different between the Ebay and OEM flasher, when it's not flashing. Other than that, both of them should work and do what they are intended for. Even if our Maverick made in different year....

@mspmms....

I finally received the flashing light from a Ford parts distributor; came in a rather big box for that little thing and looks exactly just like yours from Ebay.

I did drill a hole for the light next to the headlight switch and increase/decrease cruising speed switches:

Ford Maverick Maverick fob remote start... lights

There's nothing behind the blank panel for about an 1.5" - 2", pretty much behind the whole square at least on mine. The light panel can be removed easily, it just pops out, disconnect the wires and drill it with a 9/32" drill. Alternatively, it can be drilled without removing the panel, but just for sanity do check the space behind it on yours. The light works just fine, it lit solid for 20 seconds and then slowly flashing until the truck is unlocked.

My alarm is still on maximum sensitivity setting, but seldom causes problems. My landscaper's gas blower around the truck did set it off once, but that was the only issue. Since then, he doesn't go close to my truck with blower and the throttle wide open.

The rest of them had been self-inflicted, like add/remove my bike rack from the receiver, let the 110V outlet cover snap close in the truck bed, etc., but these were just one beep warnings.

While my initial intent had been adding the remote start to my OEM fob, I like the the perimeter security feature as well now.

Thank you all for your help during this add-on project, much appreciated...

Believe it or not, I didn't know that those switches are for dimming the the instrument panel. Now I do, thx and yes, page 98 of the manual. Yet another page I didn't bother to look at....

This is what I've been looking for. Thanks! I'm gonna try and center mine with the top switch so that if I ever install a fog light kit, I'll have room for that switch beneath it.

You can enable ford perimeter plus in Forscan after installing the part you guys mentioned.

I am not certain, if it is required to do. On mine, the system enabled it itself without adding the VSS to the system without ForeScan. If the sensitivity set at the max, stepping on the bumper, lowering my bicycle rack, etc., triggered the alarm. Had to turn it down the sensitivity to less than half, so the neighbors Harley wouldn't set off the alarm...
