Maverick Chip Shortage

I am sure it is. That's the same blend date I have but my vehicle has been in production since 12/2. I verified with my dealer and mine is on hold waiting for a chip. I also have an ETA of 1/07 but I live in Michigan so i know that isn't happening.

First of all, Ford tried to keep the fact that there was a problem with chips a secret from everyone because of the issues that they had and the lots full of vehicles, some of which are STILL waiting for chips. Ford is more interested in keeping the assembly line running, then they are about allocating the chips that they have to the vehicles that they have already built and parked in the desert. Ford isn't about to change the way they are doing business.

I spoke with my salesperson today about the chip hold. We went through this earlier in the year with my Bronco Sport and I had ordered a 2022MY BS/BL when we didn't know when the 2021MY one would arrive. My 2022MY Bronco Sport is scheduled to be delivered next month and I told him that I would be taking which ever one got onto his lot first and they are good with that. The only difference between the two is that some of the cash back incentives aren't available one the BS but they said the dealership would still reduce the cost of either by that much. So there might be an extra Maverick for sale soon.

I saw on the news China might pick up on chip production.
Do you have a window sticker now? If so, when in the process did it show up? Our hybrid has been "in production" since the 16th, but no window sticker shows yet. Also, at what point would there be something specific showing on the Vehicle Visibility Report?

Similar story to mine. I had an ordered "rot lot" Bronco Sport June MIA build that I bailed on when I ordered the Maverick. The rot lot apparently was "first in, last out".
My deposit was a year ago for a vehicle I'm still waiting for.

As of yesterday, since the tracker is down this morning, my vehicle is still in production. I spoke to a woman at Ford who said it’s awaiting a chip and that’s all she could tell me. She also told me delivery is still slated for 1/6-1/12, which I don’t see being possible unless the tracker is off big time. I also do not have any modules pop up. If it is going to be a four month wait like the Bronco Sport I will have to buy another vehicle. The question is what vehicle can I get these days?!

I thought this was BS when I read it on FB, guess not. No idea what this does to the build time on mine. I am about to head back to the states so have to move where I take delivery anyway, but the lead time on it is any bodies guess. Could work in my favor or could become completely unworkable. I have no idea at this point.

I work at a company that uses many of the same components. The suppliers are telling us the worst is yet to come, that 2022 will be worse for automotive qualified chips.
The demand for chips has skyrocketed in the last few years. The fabs are at full capacity, and it takes 18-24 months just to bring another fab online. And, the fabs in most of these countries in Asia are required by law to reduce their workforce every time Covid numbers hit certain targets.
On top of that, most companies are not vertically integrated, so not only are they fighting for access to chips they are also fighting for access to module manufacturing capability.
My company is vertically integrated, but even so my team has spent a good part of this year redesigning and requalifying existing boards and systems to use available components. Our suppliers are saying we are in a far better place than most of the industry. Others are dealing with constant line-down issues.

I just received an update from my salesman with the status of my Maverick. Even though Etis and the As-Built shows the chips/modules being installed and live, as of today it is still showing it to be on Chip Hold Status in the vehicle visibility report. Guess I will have to wait until the beginning of the new year in January before anything else good happens with it.

We really have no idea how they are allocating chips. One thing is for sure, the HAVE to keep the assembly line productive. They build what they can with what they have. I would guess that if they had to order additional chips to cover shortfalls, these extra chips are what gets allocated to stuff sitting in the lot. They can't plan an assembly run then have the whole thing grind to a halt because they cannibalized chips from vehicles on the line for stuff in the lot.
