I know I always buy a different vehicle and pay taxes and transfer fees when my fuel costs go up by $3 a week! I joke but there are plenty people who think that way. To justify their desire for a different vehicle that doesn't smell like all the farts they ripped in their old one.
I thought the same thing when I saw this, people don't go, "oh no gas went up a dime this week, better be looking for rice burner."

Yes, but the Mav hybrids are developing a reputation and it's not a great one.
I'm gonna disagree here, if I may. The hybrids only have a bad reputation within a subset of the existing maverick owners pool, and that subset is a small minority of the total ownership of the car to begin with. Beyond that, it's only people that hate hybrids to begin with, so it's irrelevant.

There's absolutely been some very valid and dumb issues with the early hybrids, but nobody in the general populace cares. And every hard stat that exists shows above average reliability and lower than average problem rates. The issues just get amplified in echo chambers.

As to why things may be slowing down for maverick sales--IMO has nothing to do with the car and everything to do with the general economy. It's something happening to a lot of car manufacturers across the board. I saw Hyundai dealers with 0% interest a couple months back. Cars are building up on lots now because nobody can afford the really high standard interest rates and higher base prices combined, and all their savings have been exhausted.

This also varies with location. Hybrids are still highly desirable here in the big cities. My ‘23 that I traded was only listed on the dealers website at $30.5k for like 3 days before it was gone last week. That’s still $3k over MSRP for a used truck.
Hybrids sell pretty quick here.
Totally agree it's also location based. Closer to Seattle and even Spokane Hybrids and even EV's do pretty well over there. A lot more people and a lot bigger/better roads.

Can you show me some of those hard stats for the hybrid? Most recent information (which is not a hard stat) from Consumer Reports shows that the Hybrid has just average reliability (60 out of 100) where the Ecoboost has above average reliability (71).

The general populace does care about potential fire hazards (recall) where the only thing Ford did was cut off some plastic shutters. The general populace does care about their vehicles starting consistently and the Deep Sleep mode is real which Ford's response is - it's normal, or get a battery tender. That doesn't address grabby brakes or any of the other TSBs and recalls.

It's not an echo chamber when there are noted NHTSA recalls impact multiple years of hybrid production.

After living with both for a couple of months, I’m selling our hybrid Maverick because we decided the EB AWD works better for us.

Carmax gave the highest offer over Carvana, driveway.com, etc.

Here‘s the interesting part. Carmax appraiser told me I might do better at an independent Ford dealer. I called the place where we bought the EB and they were not interested In an outright purchase.

Salesman I talked to said they have 3 pre-owned on their lot right now and 2 more prepping for sale. All are trade-ins on 2024s.

New inventory arriving regular basis, always have at least 1 declined Maverick order for sale at msrp and buyers are no longer willing to pay premiums for pre-owned Mavericks.

Hybrid going to Carmax tomorrow.
Toyota dealer in Denver offered $27,000 for my 2023 EB/AWD/LUX pkg/Slider in an email. Salesperson later called and said offer might be higher with an onsite inspection. They had a 2022 Bronco Sport Badlands at $29,999 that piqued my interest.

FWD sells much much faster in places where AWD is NOT "A REQUIREMENT OR YOU WILL DIE IN THE WINTER" :D

I'm not a flipper; I buy my cars for the long haul (10 years, 250k miles). That said, I'm very confident about the drivetrain in my '24 Lariat hybrid. I'm not concerned about the trade-in value since I wear them out over 10 years.

Very much agree with your statements:

hybrids only have a bad reputation within a subset of the existing maverick owners pool, and that subset is a small minority of the total ownership of the car to begin with
issues just get amplified in echo chambers
As for other posts here the price that gets offered for Mavericks is very much decided on basic "supply and demand", inventory levels and location.

As a counterpoint to the OP and others I just had Carvana give me a quote of $29,659 on 02/01/2024 for my 2023 Ford Maverick XLT Hybrid with 1,742 miles on it here in the Dallas area.

Original MSRP was $26,850 so the current offer price is $2,809 over MSRP and also $1,338 over my total out-the-door price of $28,321. That price includes all taxes and fees with no trade-in.

My 2022 Maverick XL FWD EcoBoost 1,800 miles with copilot 360, sliding rear window from Carvana is being delivered today. The asking price before delivery, taxes, title, and registration was 28k. They had reduced the price recently.

Why did I buy it? The OTD price was nearly identical to the price to order a new one from Ford when you factor in the mandatory fees Ford adds. And, of course, I don't have to wait a year to take delivery.

Finally, they offered me a lot for my trade; 50% more than CarMax.

In-person prices for all models here in South Florida are still way over MSRP and nobody has them in stock. If they do have one, they add like $5000 in fees on top of the 30k asking price and that's BEFORE tax, title, and reg.

Interestingly when I was actually buying my base model tons were being snapped up. There was little left in an EcoBoost with under 5,000 miles. Right after I, and many others, bought all the inventory the prices noticeably surged back up.

It's just like the housing market. Tons of people are sitting on the sidelines with money, ready to buy. As soon as prices fall just enough to not be a total ripoff the inventory instantly sells out and prices bounce back up.

i sold my 2015 GMC Sierra 1500 to Carmax to pay for my '24 EB. They paid about 2k more than Carvana was offering.

It seems the prices are very regional. When I saw my truck arrived at the dealer it was instantly listed for sale... which apparently is a thing Ford requires them to do (something about inventory it sounded like) and they had it at a $6000 markup! I asked the sales guy, Rick, and he said it would sell super fast still!
That's been going on ever since the Maverick was introduced and is the reason why I 'custom' ordered mine. NOT gonna pay that markup!
Second hand prices seems high AF still too, and I haven't really looked at hybrid issues and prices since it was never really and combo that interested me.
I have a 24 tremor XLT with around 1200 miles that we have not gotten a single inquiry about. I think it is just sitting in the wrong region… Virginia. At around $35,000 it’s a great driving truck. Maybe it’s because it’s not a lariat tremor. Maybe people prefer the higher trim levels. We did not buy a hybrid because fwd is not useful for us where we are.

Maybe I should advertise my 24 awd XLT tremor in south Florida :) we are asking less than msrp with less than 2000 miles and no one is interested yet. Must be regional.
