I tried to do this and it got stuck. It’s currently in my oven heating up so I can just remove it.
How is it holding up for you? The reviews specifically from Maverick owners suggest it has a tendency to fall off
"heating it up"???
I placed (clamped) the "Nut" with bolt attached into my workbench vise, downstairs.
Then, threaded (turn) the bolt in and then backed it almost all the way out.
Then installed it onto the tailgate..
The idea is to loosen some of the "Loctite" (blue material).

Has been working since, my post (Feb. 2023).
I DO recheck it, when I open the tailgate..

yeah, heating up. I threaded it. It got stuck. I couldn’t remove it at all. I felt I was more likely to break something trying to get it back out. It’s “only” medium strength, but it was being stubborn.
The easiest way to remove loctite (once it’s already on a threaded bolt), is to add heat. So I stuck it in the oven for a bit. Managed to unthread the bolt right after. Add 10 more minutes of finagling and the tailgate assist is securely attached to my truck
