Low MPG displayed on short trips in Hybrid

I tried it on 2 15 mile trips. No difference, yet. Gonna reset all settings and try a long run. I usually drive in the Eco mode and turn off traction control too. I wish I could default those settings. Love my XLT Hybrid.

Sorry for the confusing post - the setting was just a coincidence and had nothing to do with my MPGs. I was getting inaccurate readings when I drove short trips. I was only taking the truck around the corner and back for work, so I thought it was broken or something reading 13-18 MPG after each short trip. In reality I am consistently getting around 50 mpg around town now that my job is further away! Also changing my tire pressure to 35 as recommended may have helped too. And I absolutely love my hybrid XL.

Just read a post here about driving in slippery mode to get higher MPGs and run off the electric motor more, so I figured I'd try it on my way to work.. I was surprised how much longer it stayed in electric motor! I got the highest MPGs I've ever gotten, with a bed full of tool boxes and saw horses and the cab carrying all my tools! This is amazing.

Maybe I'm missing something, but a drive of less than a mile under most conditions will kick on the gas engine, and the engine will run until it reaches operating temperature. You're not going to see Hybrid like mileage on a super short trip like that, unless you manage to stay in all electric mode.

Add to that the engine fires up immediately if it's much under ~40 degrees, and stays running until warmed up. You need around 3 miles, more in cold weather, to see 40+ mpg.

Usually, slippery mode + letting the EV Coach teach you how to stay in Electric mode will yield the best mileage you can get on a trip, short or long.

Very short trips with a COLD engine will yield poor MPG. Very short trips if the engine is still warm (or in warm weather) will yield significantly better mileage.

Frankly speaking, trip screenshots should be banned from this forum. It's like a screenshot of your morning stool. Yours is never relevant to other MTC members. Never.

I see your latest screenshot, you used the HVB. On the return trip, you'll need to recharge and get bad mileage. It all evens out. Nobody cares. Really. It's not personal. You were wrong so just delete the thread. Happens to all of us once in a while.

Yes!

And if it feels fine to you PUT MORE AIR IN your tires. 40-44psi is great for higher MPG.

But not on snow or ice so don't in Winter.

A Chinese guy walks into a Ford Dealership. He explain how he's getting bad mpg one way and good mpg on the way home. The advisor states that they're not going to fix it. He tries to explain it and says, well you know it's...fluctuations. Then the Chinese guy says, Well fuck you American too!

I am glad you are so sure about everything but for me, posting about things I'm unsure about and reading replies and interacting with others who know more than I do about a topic is extremely helpful. To me, dropping from 50+ mpg to 13 mpg seemed like there could be something very wrong with my brand new vehicle, the only brand new vehicle I've ever owned, and one that I saved up for a year and a half to buy outright. I live in an area with very little public transportation and I rely on this truck to make a living. If something's wrong, I'd like to know as much as possible about it before taking it to the dealership. I'm very thankful for the replies I've gotten to my op. I went from having a very bad couple of weeks, thinking my new truck was shitting itself to understanding more about how it works, which to me is a very good thing, and I can only hope that others who have read this can learn more as I have.
I don't think deleting the post is a good idea, but I will edit the original post to make it more clear.
