Learning to Drive. I want a Maverick, though.
Anyone else think a Lincoln version of the Maverick could be awesome? This may sound weird, but the Maverick makes me miss Mercury more--it seems like with a chrome waterfall grille, "wood" trim inside, and an analog clock on the dashboard, the Maverick could have made an awesome Mercury Monarch, sort of like a successor to the Grand Marquis. (That said, I think I'll buy the XLT FX4 with a 4K tow package, especially if they make an FX4 Hybrid.) I think it'd be awesome to be able to have a couple different themes to choose from (I love the themes Ford offers, but the thought of a "comfort-oriented" version alongside the adventure-oriented ones could be a nice idea.) Take the same basic idea, and put a Lincoln badge on it, and you could have a good Lincoln Mark M.

I would be pretty surprised to see that happen, not because I don't think the designers at Ford/Lincoln couldn't make a nice looking version (though I really do like the basic "truck" look that it currently sports), but because of the market positioning of Lincoln being such a contradiction to where Ford positioned this little truck.

Do you remember the Blackwood and the Mark LT?! Massive massive failures.
Very poor marketing on Fords part. I didn’t even know they existed until they weren’t being made anymore. I would have liked a Mark LT

I think those failures had more to do with the fact that they were so clearly just rebadged F-150s with a half-baked facelift and marginally nicer interiors. Folks are clearly willing to buy luxuriously appointed trucks, but no one wants to look the fool who paid $10-20k more for a different grill. They have wised up in recent years and have made the higher end packages significantly different inside and out. Plus they are able to leverage their already well-known brand equity by keeping them in the same brand.

Ahead of their time. That simple. Luxury trucks are now the norm.

Ah, memories. First brand spanking new car I ordered from a dealership was a Mercury. V-6, standard shift, British racing green exterior, tan upholstery/interior. Consistent 33 mpg on the highway. Zippy little ride.

Showed up with a sunroof, which I had not ordered. Dealer tried to tack on an extra charge for that but I waved the signed MSRP sales contract around and they relented.

I like rugged styling, and I love the Maverick, but I wish there was a Chrome Appearance Package, or something similar. Maybe a long-bed option. Other than that, it's completely my dream truck.

I worked at a Lincoln Mercury dealer in the 70's thru 90's. The regular Mercs were OK. The Pinto was a Bobcat, the Maverick a Comet, the Granada a Monarch. The Mercury had a little more finesse, but were normal for the times vehicles. Then the excrement hit the air conditioning with the fuel crisis.

Next thing you know, there is a Lincoln Versailles. It was a Granada with a padded roof, leather seats, a fake spare tire trunk, and a huge Lincoln like grille. The marketing strategy was smaller was more fuel efficient, Personal opinion, it looked stupid. TOO MUCH MAKEUP! I feel the same would be true with a Lincerick.

Don't get me started on the "Cadillac" Cimeron.

That honestly makes sense. I love the Maverick's simplicity, and while I think the Versailles was a beautiful (but overpriced) car, I don't think it'd translate well.

And, if it says anything, I think female country singers of the sixties used a good amount of makeup--enough, but not too much.

I had a Lincoln Mark LT for 12 years. Great truck. Overpriced new, but I picked it up for a great price used. Especially since it had the same features as a Ford F150 Limited. They should have differentiated it a little further from the F150 in design.

There is a Lincoln version of the Escape. So it's not a huge stretch. I kinda wished my Lariat Lux had more features. I would be willing to buy a Lincoln version of the Maverick if it really looked trick.
