Anyone out there have a truck equipped with the factory "LED Box Lighting" referred to in the XLT luxury package? I assume this is also standard on the Lariat. Very curious as to how many lights there are and how effectively they illuminate the cargo area. Any photos anyone can post would be appreciated. Thanks!

Cool, thanks. How well does it illuminate the bed at night? It's only one light, so I'd be shocked if you said it lights it up like the Fourth of July. But does it throw enough light to see what you're doing back there and get your bed packed and unpacked?

Also, I assume the brake light above the cab also has some white lights that shine down into the cab, right? So, between that and the LED in the bed, do you feel like it's sufficient?

This might interest you:

I have an XLT Lux with the box lightening. It does a good job. Not 100% perfect all the way in the back, but like 80% coverage. That said, I'm going to update the third break lights from Panda Motorworks in a couple months.

I switched out the cab lights with LED bulbs right away, so with them and the bed light it’s really good.

Excellent videos! The tonneau cover in the first video unfortunately just sits at an angle where it blocks a lot of the light from the brake light getting into the bed of the truck. But if you don't have a bed cover (I did not order one) then the light would be flooding in there and it seems like you'd have more than enough light for whatever you need to do. Thanks.

I've got the OEM box lighting. It is OK at lighting the box in conjunction with the overhead cab lights. I recommend upgrading the overhead cab lights to LED as that made a significant improvement alone.

I added LED strip lights along both sides of the bed and the comparison is night/day. See below:

That's awesome. Did the lights you got just plug into the 12-volt outlet right there in the cab, or did you have to hard wire them?

I "hard wired" them using they DIY pigtail that came with the truck. Literally twisted two wires together and the LED's were powered. I did not plug them into the existing 12v outlet in the bed - the LED's are on a separate switch.

Gotcha. Obviously I am not sure exactly what you are referring to as far as the pigtail, but I'm sure it'll make sense once I get my truck. I've rigged up lights and rocker switches on my side by side and sounds like whatever you did here was a lot simpler than that.

On each side of the bed is a little plastic cover... That pops off and leaves you with a factory plastic harness. When you bought your truck, it will (should) come with (1) opposite pigtail that gives you two bare wires to splice in with your accessory of choice. Those 12v pre-wired circuits exist to "hack" your bed with some DIY projects. Video here: Hack Your Maverick: Electrical
