Oh god! Those Jatco CVTs were utter garbage; Anything coming from Jatco is garbage. Slap a horrible designed transmission with a horrible company and you have a recipe for disaster.
The 500/Freestyle used CVTs manufactured by ZF, not Jatco.

Hey guys! Bit of an update, got my truck back!

Apparently, there was a missing plug on the back of the engine from the factory? I'm thinking my engine may have been built on a Friday lol. They put a new plug in and ordered a new shielding to be put on later.

Seems to be running great now and not leaking! Just hope it didn't do any long-term damage to my engine. I may end up buying the extended warranty, or upgrading to a 2023 when it comes available.

Thank you to everyone that commented!

Kinda glad I got into this thread late. After reading everyone's panicked guesses at head gaskets and rear mains, I'm glad it was just a loose block plug. If you still saw oil on the dipstick, I wouldn't worry about the engine. The non-turbo Ford Duratec/Mazda MZR motor is all but bulletproof.

Honestly, my biggest concern would be the mess left in the engine bay. I'd imagine the dealer would clean the engine bay and subframe, esp if they've already ordered a new underbody shield, but it still couldn't hurt to spray down the back of the engine bay with Simple green and a garden hose when the weather gets warmer.

I would insist on extended warranty. I think that’s a very reasonable request that Ford may grant considering the issue was oil in the engine.

Glad they found a problem. Ask them to give you a Free extended warranty, just in case there might be a problem later.

Hey sorry to hear that really i hope it works out 100% in your flavor. I have to agree with the others that said to ask for a new engine and dont budge on it. You didnt get the mav so you could worry that it could turn into a nightmare no you love it because it a mavrick it the first year that a car company released a totally new car .. I dont know about you but the monent i saw it i knew it was the truck for me ...when you look back on how you handled this and it will be such a large part of how your experience with this vehicle's. Make sure it's a happy one. If they wont... tell them to take it and ram it were the sun dont shine and get your spot back on the list in same or higher order good luck and stay 💪

A single missing "plug" would not explain leaking oil AND coolant.

Burning the midnight oil eh ? IT was just a plug in the rear of the engine, its already repaired - they certainly wont replace the engine.

I'll jump in one more time.
The top pic looks like green coolant.
Does the Mav have green coolant?
I haven't seen green coolant on a newer vehicle since my 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 VAN, V8.

The factory oil has a locator dye in it that will make the oil have a green tinge to it, probably was all oil and people mistook it for coolant...

Good afternoon!

Someone canceled their order for an XL 2.5L Hybrid 4 days ago, and I was lucky enough to snag it up with only 20 miles on it. I love this truck so much! Literally the perfect vehicle for me, and I love getting 42+ MPG.

However, I saw a puddle when I got home, but I thought maybe it was from using the AC. Yesterday, at 180 miles, I realized it was leaking a ton of oil & coolant. Leaving puddles at my house and office. Also, smelt oil from the cab when I had the fan on.

I checked the dipstick, it was at the very bottom. I took it to my Ford dealer today, they said it was coming from the back of the engine (Head gasket?). They gave me a loaner vehicle and said they would keep me updated on repairs.

Sorry for the bad photos, I originally took a video, but not sure how to upload it.

Not really sure what to think! Any opinions?

I don't think I did any damage, but just hoping I didn't get a lemon.

Thank you!
We have a lemon law here in Maine, hopefully your state does too. Sorry to hear this and I hope the dealership makes it good for you without jerking you around. We ALL waited so long for our Maverick (for my Wife) that we all just wanted it to be what we hoped for. Good Luck;) and keep us all informed on how and IF this gets resolved.

Yes the Maverick has green coolant. The hybrid version has two jugs for green coolant. 1 for the engine and 1 for the hvb.
