I have had on my list of mods to update my Maverick with Lasfit Leds...

Just saw the the Ford light recall and understand people having issues with their Leds now.

Then I came across this video which is a long video but worth it to watch... this is a Toyo but the principles still apply.

Not sure I want to do the Lasfit Leds now...just not sure.

I posted a thread a few hours ago, if you have forscan it took about 5 minutes to fix the hyperflash issues I had with my first gen lasfits

It's my understanding the Lasfit's have internal resistors which is why they get hot. However, it's also what causes them to fail early on. I've read people normally get about 12 months out of them before they fail completely.

I put some in for my reverse and bed lights but if/when they fail I will just go back to the OEM bulbs (I kept them).

IMO LED bulbs in turn signals and brake lights are completely unnecessary. I can see the use case for the reverse lights (since they do a really good job over stock) and the bed lights which really help.

Sitting in the turn lane, mine will hyper flash after a bit. I simply turn them off. By the time they flash, I’m in a long line of folks also turning.

Seems like an upgrade not worth the money, and not worth the effort if it causes issues.

I would like them for the reverse lights though to really brighten up the path behind me.

I have Underground LED switchbacks in my 24 XLT, built in resistors and a fan. They also have zero hyperflash. They are insanely bright. Seperate resistors get very very hot and will cause a lot of electrical meltage.

Not looking forward to lots of Mavericks driving around with burnt out bulbs the drivers don't know about because they disabled (Federal safety rules required for a reason) notification in the computer......

Which they would be just as unaware of if they lived with their LED bulbs hyperflashing all the time.

I wonder if one of the Lasfit T3s being burned out will trigger the notification or if the sole bulb will still auto-adjust to compensate.

Well, LED's are not useless for any replacements, the whole point is supposed to be less heat and a longer life. The brightness is just a plus for most people. If you've ever seen stock bulbs after long periods they sometimes melt the surrounding plastic of the fixture that holds the bulb. I've had many vehicles do this.

But I'm with you. If they fail I get another brand and I keep the OEM bulbs as spares just in case with my tools in the truck.

A little common sense goes a long way. People do it even with the notifications on their vehicles. I'd estimate about 25% of vehicles around where I live are that way. It's ridiculous. Too many people don't do a 360 walk around of their vehicles often enough or pay attention. Also, previous FORD's have an odd way of notifying people that bulbs are out - like cruise control not working. That was a thing on 04-08 F150's. Who is going to guess that without troubleshooting? Even took me by surprise.

Either way, whatever happens, I only paid $30 for the entire set thanks to the marketplace. The set came with switchbacks and I sold those. So at least if they go out I'm not out too much moolah.

I agree if property designed for the install, LEDs should consume much less power and produce less heat.

My understanding (and that video explains) of cars that were not designed for LED bulbs, is the resistors must be added somewhere downstream and this means the power is still going into the bulb (or resistor, if separate). The danger is screwing up the resistor calculation and blowing the lightning controller (which is what happened) or building in the resistors to the LED bulb itself which a) doesn't reduce power consumption and b) produces massive excess heat.

As you know heat is the killer of anything electronic.

I've had incandescent bulbs in my cars for decades without issue, and replacement is $10-$20.

This is, IMO, a solution in search of a problem. The other issue is the LED retrofits are insanely bright, nobody needs to see your turn signal from 3/4 of a mile away.
