I grew tired of dropping my iPhone onto the charging pad in my Lariat only to discover it moved and lost the charging sweet spot. I took an EV foam mat and laser cut a filler. Now my phone locks into place and holds the phone in position for charging.

Hmm. Mine never does that.

The way I end up with an uncharged phone is from plopping it in there without centering it and not initially checking on it to make sure charging started.

if charging starts correctly, I’ve never had it disconnect from moving around.

And I drive pretty hard. Average economy after 6k miles is under 17 mpg.

You ARE driving hard with 17 mpg, I must be doing it all wrong 😃

Anyone else have a heat issue on the charging pad? Mine would get so hot it would go into overheat mode. I tried removing the Otter Box cover and it seems to be much better. That's kind of a pain to do so now on longer trips I just use a USB charging cord plugged into the back port and put the phone in my Weathertech cup holder phone cradle and that works fine.
I'm somewhat old school with an iPhone SE. Maybe the newer ones work better?

Mine doesn't stay still to charge long enough to get hot. Have an iphone 15 pro max.

I thought about making a foam base to go around it so it won't move.

I had a iPhone SE 2nd gen and it got pretty hot, never went into overheat mode. It finally got so old I had to upgrade. So just upgraded to a new to me SE 3rd gen haven’t tried it yet in the Mav.

I had hoped that this post was about the overheating issue. Not only does my phone slide around and lose the charger but when it is charging, it goes into overheat mode. Ford needs to fix this.

Talking about phone upgrades, I got a text today from my carrier reminding me that October is upgrade season and is happening.

Ford is not going to fix wireless charging overheating, specifically because they don’t need to fix it.

Wireless overheating is common in every car that doesn’t have actively cooled wireless charging pads.

The only cars that have active cooling for their wireless charging cradles are the luxury brands.

Most people are already crying about the Maverick costing too much. Ford has to pick and choose its price battles. And this is one battle that Ford has ignored for years across multiple model lines, not just mavericks.

In the meantime, try turning on your ac and setting it to cool under the dash. This actually works.

Personally, if I want to do a 10-100% charge in the car, I just plug it in because it charges 5x as fast with zero overheating.

Thats just the physics of inductive charging, especially with a pad that is designed to accept multiple generations, multiple sizes and multiple brands of phones.

Do you keep in "L" or something? That's crazy!
No, I keep it in “B”.

Ecoboost doesn’t mean you get both eco AND boost. It means you get eco OR boost. And I always run it in boost mode.

How do you keep it in boost-mode, you might ask? By appropriately adjusting the throttle lever until the MAP sensor starts reading positive numbers.
