So I recently purchased a 2023 Tremor from a local dealership in western WA. They had been keeping an eye out for me and on 7/13 I received an email saying that they had one coming in. I know they’re not supposed to sell a vehicle before it has been delivered but they did anyway.

While at the dealership I was told that the vehicle had an estimated delivery date of 7/27. They also said that it was currently on a truck and they knew that it had already crossed the border.
Over the last few weeks I have reached out for updates a few times and each time have been told “no update” and most recently “we can’t really track the orders”. This seems inconsistent with the original statement of “it’s on a truck and across the border”, how could they know this without some sort of tracking capability?

Well I started digging and was able to find my window sticker, and was then able to use the Ford order tracking site. The current status is “built 7/4”. This would indicate that it still hasn’t shipped but has been waiting to do so for a month.

So my question, is it normal for the tracker to lag this far behind or did my dealership just lie about what they knew? Also, is it common for an order to be built and then wait a whole month to ship?

Yes.

Totally.

Don't hold your breathe seeking answers. When it comes in, it comes in.

End of story.

Close the thread.

They can track it down to a couple feet radius via "VINView". Like a live GPS tracking. Tell them to send you a screenshot of the current location. And tell them to stop jerking you around. Which dealership?

Other items of note. They are shipped by rail to Portland Oregon if you are in western WA. Then go on a semi truck to the dealer from there. So if they mean "border" as in Mexican border, it is still on a train.

P.S. get them to give you the Railcar number from VINView and we can track it for you via the railroad tracking system (via an automated phone number).

If it has "crossed the border", they can 100% see the Railcar number in VINView.

Thank you for the info.

Regarding the train vs truck thing, I was under this impression as well, that it would go to Portland via rail. On my window sticker it says convoy though. Does that make any sense?

I’d like to hold off on naming the dealership for now, but when I call today if they are anything but helpful I’ll come back and let everyone know.

Convoy just means it will be a semi at the end of the process (from Portland to dealership).

1,000,000% sure it will go to Portland via rail and then semi to dealership.

Let us know. I could track it in like 30 seconds with the rail car number. Don't let them tell you they don't know it. It is in multiple systems. If they still won't provide it, we can get it from Ford directly. I'm good at it. Haha. Keep me updated.

Thank you so much for your help. They open in a few hours, as soon as I’ve called I’ll come back here with the info.

Wellll......I just remembered something...that might make this bad. Did you say you already purchased it? Like 100% bought it and paid and signed all the paperwork? If it was there, they would have already handed you the keys and kicked you out the front door? If so.....they may not be jerking you around. I believe @fordvideoguy has said that once it is sold, dealer cant track it anymore. This is why his dealership doesn't like to "sell" them before they arrive. @fordvideoguy , am I correct in that recollection?

That is correct. Bummer that they might not be able to track it, but kinda nice that they may have been telling the truth. I’m glad to have this info before placing an angry phone call.

I guess that just leaves me with one question, is it reasonable to believe that the vehicle is still sitting in Mexico after a whole month? Or does the tracker sometimes have a huge lag?

Yes and yes. Could still be waiting in Mexico, and tracker could be lagging that bad if it has already shipped.

New plan. Call Ford Customer Service and ask them for the railcar number. Tell them that you already purchased it, so the dealer can no longer track it for you. Then tell us the railcar number and we will tell you where it is. I have gotten really good at getting locations via the railroad automated systems.

If Ford says there is no railcar number, ask them if that is because the status is not yet "shipped". That in itself would be illuminating...

YES - it is normal for the tracker to lag
YES - It is possible your dealer lied. Some of them just give canned answers and don't actually look op your order states

My dealer was able to track mine most of the way but once it gets off the train you're at the mercy of trucking companies. My dealer knew that it was off the rail yard but it sat in Chicago about 2 hours away from me for about 3 weeks until it was brought from there to my dealer. So if Portland is your largest local town it could be delivered to Portland pretty quick after it was built but could then sit in Portland for a couple weeks.

You are preaching to the choir on this one....Mine was built 6/8, shipped 6/18, updated to shipped indicating 7/3 from AZ, made it to Michigan 2 weeks ago with an expected delivery date of 8/2 and it was just bumped out AGAIN. Im now looking at maybe the 13th. It is less than 6 hours away.

Yikes! Mine shows built 7/22 and shipped 7/23. Guess I shouldn't expect it anytime soon.
