Metal tri-fold tonneau covers are always $1000-1500.

The key functionality difference is whether you want it folded against your rear glass, blocking visibility but keeping it attached to the bed, or if you want to remove it.

Weathertech isn't missing that feature, it intentionally works differently. I want to see behind me so removing it has more value, to me. There are others that you also can remove but they typically have some kind of header bracket that reduces usable space in the bed.
There are plenty of no-name metal tri-folds that do not fold up in the $500-600 range and the RoughCountry one is only $700.

I have the rough country $700 one. It’s okay. It just doesn’t look that clean. The edges are a rubber gasket material that is wavy on the edges. Like it doesn’t look level down the side of the bed. Not sure if it will hold up with the sun either. Time will tell.

I purchased the Weather Tech Alloy cover for my Maverick XLT three months ago after looking at a lot of other covers. First off, I am very happy with mine and like how clean the appearance is. I have a Carbonize Gray Maverick and the color of the Weather Tech matches my truck perfectly.

I did experienced some water leaking around the front cover panel seal (closest to the cab window) and a little water was getting in the vinyl rail where there is a small joint indentation on both sides of the side truck bed rails. I decided to buy a 6 foot piece of black adhesive stripped gasket at Lowe's (usually used for home exterior windows and doors) and mounted it under the front cover gasket to stop water seeping under the cover gasket when I'm driving on the highway in heavy rain. I also placed a drop of silicone sealer to the vinyl rail joint to stop any water seeping in under the cover seal and the small indentation in the rail. I have never gotten any water leaking in along the metal rails the fasten to the vinyl bed rails that are used to mount the cover to the truck. Those Weather Tech rails are design to force water to the outside of the truck and they work perfectly. Those minor modification stopped my water leaks completely. However, you will still get a little water leaking in around the tailgate area which is common for just about every truck cover I have ever seen.
Appreciate the write up. This cover looks really clean. I have carbonized gray as well. I’ll try and post a pick of my rough country cover for comparison (see post above).

Can you provide any feedback on how water tight the weather tech is? Great looking cover BTW!
I have not had any water intrusion at all. I installed it myself. We’ve had some heavy rains and I’ve washed the truck several times with no leaks. Keeping my fingers crossed it stays this way.

I looked for the same option and decided on a Lomax Stance. It should arrive this week.
Lomax is the first one I've seen that seems like it will give full access to bed. Thanks

I picked it since it does not appear to reduce the inside height of the bed.

I have the Ford Tri-Fold and haul Motorcycles frequently, so I feel your pain

It takes up 7" of the front of the bed when fully folded up. That's about 13% of the whole bed. It sucks but the tonneau works real well. Often, if in need the space, I just spin off the two bolts holding it on and remove it. It takes about 30 seconds and works great.

Depending on how far I have to drive or if I'm in a rush, I just jam em in diagonally.

I have the Gator FX and it does what you want. It also can be removed very easily. Two hand knobs to twist off and it is off. Takes less than a minute. The weathertech looks flimsy in that video and it only opens up to the last panel essentially leaving 1/3 of it closed unless you remove it. I am very pleased with my Gator. It is solid, minimal leaks (lets face it, they ALL leak a bit) and does what it is supposed to do.

If you want a quality cover that does what you want, you are going to be in the $900+ price range. There really aren't any cheap options yet.

I haven't seen one of those bikes in years; they were bullet proof.

I wouldn't trust one of those no-name janky things from Amazon or eBay.

I am pretty sure that the weathertech is the same, actually made by Lomax for weathertech. Get whatever you can get cheapest, I suppose?

I agree with you, but I also wouldn't spend an extra $300 more than you need to just for the Weathertech name. Sure, they make good floor liners but so do a lot of other companies. Doesn't mean everything they make is gold. They are like Yeti. They throw their name on everything and people overpay because they want something that says Yeti on it.

I installed the Lomax Stance today and it does what I need. The final fold-up against the cab allows full bed access. It is not a flush mount so I only lost about 1" of bed depth which was the main reason I chose it over BakFlip. I have a portable camping fridge that needs 19" of bed depth to close the tonneau.
The mounting points on the roof are black and blend in well on my First Edition black roof. If you have a light colored Maverick you might not like them.
While it is not a flush mount it is pretty low profile and operates with one hand, unlike the Ford OEM soft trifold I replaced. (That is for sale now if anyone near Baltimore is interested.)
