For reference, the modern ABS system came to the USA in 1978. ABS was the same age as BLIS in 1995.. I'm sure people back then were like "I don't need no stinkin' ABS".

Point being - none of this is really all that "new" and eventually it all becomes the norm.
Right. I was one of those well-practiced at pedal modulation and could actually do a better job than the crude early ABS systems. Just as many of the other current systems still aren't fully refined yet.

My argument is driver alertness/attention>electronic aids. And in my personal experience, no part of CP360 would have prevented or changed my accident. That is my personal experience. Take it for what you will, but you can't discount it; it's mine.
Is your argument really just that an alert driver is better than electronic aids? I thought it was that the presence of electronic aids makes drivers less alert and attentive.

As I see it, one side is making a "belt-and-suspenders" argument (a net gain from having both). While the other is arguing that a person who wears suspenders will be less likely to pay attention to his belt (a net loss).

It's hard to say who's right. The article you cited here (and the article it was based on) are pretty speculative. The conclusions are couched in such weak terms (like, "I wouldn't be surprised if...") that it's hard to tell what the effect really is. One scientist even says as much. ("I won't predict what it is -- but the likelihood is that there is an effect.")

There are probably better studies out there, but my guess is that we are in for several years of conflicting reports.

In aviation, an autopilot can generally fly better (more precisely) than the pilot. Most pilots appreciate having one on board, though there are always some holdouts ...

Even with the automation, a skilled pilot is still needed at the controls.

I believe the same holds true on the road.

Yay! Something we can agree on!

Ultimately, I believe it is very driver specific.

Might some people be less likely to have an accident with these? Yes.

Might some people be more likely to have an accident with these? Yes.

Might it make no difference for some people? Yes.

I believe with my driving habits and record that I fall into the third category.

That does not mean that I think that you shouldn't buy it if you fall into the first.

It also doesn't mean that I'm a dead man walking, that I should buy a coffin or buy cp360, or that I'm choosing to be less safe. I will not benefit from it. If it's in my truck on accident, I'm turning it off.

Hence what I've said all along, I'm not here to yuck your yum, if you want to spend money on that because it's going to benefit you, BUY BUY BUY.

In my humble opinion, it's not worth it.

Called ford yesterday and they told me that the only thing holding my truck up is co pilot 360, was wondering if its worth it to remove it or just wait it out ? My dealer said keep it but idk if it can speed things up then is it really worth it ? I just wanted to power mirrors .... I am starting to wonder if I can add power mirrors by adding a harness myself ?
I wish I could let you drive my XLT. It has few extras, but the 360 is standard now, in my opinion. I am still learning, but I have never regretted it.

Back in the 1990's, a friend's wife upon getting her first vehicle with airbags, admitted driving much more aggressively, and purportedly exclaimed, "I have an airbag, and I'm not afraid to use it!"

Lost touch with them due to job change and don't know how that went.

This is incorrect. Cruise control has nothing to do with 360. You probably have the Lariat Lux which has adaptive cruise control which uses a radar sensor in the front of the vehicle to maintain distance and stop the vehicle in traffic. The only model that has that radar sensor is the Lariat Lux package, regular 360 doesn't have or use that. All Maverick models regardless of whether or not they have 360 use the standard front facing camera for emergency automatic braking, has nothing to do with cruise control or CP360.
Thank you for a clear post. I have been wrestling with information overload for 3 weeks or so. I had the only hybrid in Maine for a couple weeks, so very lonely there! I guess I came to that conclusion, but it was ok checking it out.

In 26 years of driving, I've been in one moving vehicle accident. It wasn't my fault and no amount of copilot 360 cameras or wheel vibrating would have stopped it or made any difference. I'll pass, thank you.
In 55 years of driving I have never been in any moving vehicle accident where I was the driver. I'm still glad to take advantage of safety technologies and consider the CoPilot feature well worth having. You are entitled to make your own choices. You are not entitled to insult others for theirs, or even to imply that anything is wrong with their driving skills.
