It's a two-factor issue, softer plastics, and no padding, other cars have soft padding on areas where we would usually bump or touch.

Edit: I just tried to scratch my 2020 Camry's interior and was not able to as easily, so they are definitely using softer plastics.
And the average list price of a 2020 Camry $29,092.00 range of 25916 to 38477.00
How much is that over an XL Maverick?

I move servers as apart of my job and sometimes have a few in the back seat. I noticed that middle console is getting scratched up along with the plastic kick side of the door's. I'm not worried about the wear and tear since I wanted to use this truck like a truck. Might buy a seat cover just for the stuff that is a bit sharper.

The first scratch/ding/dent/stain is the hardest. Then just move on. Life is messy.

Do you know if the Armor All matte wipes are just as good as getting it in a bottle?
Yep. I've used both. You just need to be careful not to wipe too hard with the wipes or the rougher textures can actually pull the fiber from the wipe and leave little fibers on your dash.

This pro detailer talks about exterior/interior plastics on a new Bronco, heck it may have more plastic than the Maverick.... Anyways, he mentions a ceramic detail spray on interior. No idea how well it would prevent scratches, especially major ones. May not be very much hope if the plastic is as soft as some have mentioned. Mine hasn't been scheduled yet, may be next year who knows so I haven't experienced the issue yet

I bought a ceramic protectant product. I tested it on my floor mats before I went on the dash. It turned out blotchy and weird. And you cannot remove it. Scared me to move forward with permanent interior plastics. I decided I didn't want to risk my dash. I'm sure there is probably better products out there. But I'm good with reapplying protectant every month.

After noticing my seatbelt buckle was leaving marks on the b-pillar plastic trim when it was retracting, I purchased this product: 303 Marine Protectant from amazon.

I apply it to every plastic surface I can reach on the inside of my truck about once a month. I can't say how, but it seems to help keep the inteior plastic from getting scratches and marks.

It's not glossy and it doesn't smell weird. But it's also kinda pricey at $23 a bottle.

I wonder if its not so much that the plastic is softer, but that its textured the way it is. Thus any scratches make it smooth and so are far more obvious. Most plastics I've had in other vehicles were smooth, so any scratch wouldn't really show up as much unless it was a true gouge deep into the plastic that could catch a fingernail.

I was just going to ask if anyone has tried 303 on their Maverick. Currently $17.59/16oz on Amazon. Spendy, but it goes a long way.

We have an '07 Chev Colorado and many years back we had the Line-X bedliner applied. Over the years it had started to fade from the weather and hauling yard debri, furniture and just about everything else. I decided to try some 303 and went over the entire truck bed, spraying it on and wiping it off with a towel. It turned out amazing! Made the bedliner look brand new!

If I recall, I used about 1/3 of the bottle for the truck bed. I also applied it to the dash and door panels. The '07 has plenty of plastic in the interior, but we have never had a problem with scratching. The 303 made the dash look brand new, love the stuff!

That’s what I use, I already had a gallon on hand, used on my former truck. It really helps the scratches disappear, just be sure to wipe evenly. Also works great on Weathertec mats for that new look again, nice matte finish.

I was pointing out that the padding in most cars out there is meant to take bumps easier and they are strategically put there for that reason, but let's dig a bit on your comment there, shall we?

You're counting inflation on that used Camry, the average list price on a used Maverick - even a base XL model - will be similar to that Camry's price range, if not more.

What about a fully loaded Maverick? should it scratch less because it costs more?

What about the Bronco and Bronco Sport? They are having the same issues

I just tried it on my 8 year old Kia Soul, Base Model and full of plastic and did not scratch as easily.

It's a small design flaw and sometimes it's ok to admit some of the manufacturers make mistakes and should be fixed next year's model, hell even on the Camry they had to redesign the vent trims because it was highly reflective on the driver's face.

You're probably onto something here. I suspect the unique texture of the plastic surfaces in the Maverick has something to do with the issue. The textured surface might catch the edge of anything that comes into contact wth it more easily than a smoother surface of the same material. 303 or Armor All add a little bit of a barrier to reduce the liklihood of a scratch.

Have you complained to Ford about it? If it bothers you, set aside a budget to replace the panels in 3 years. If enough people complain about it, they may change the chemistry of the plastic panels. $32000.00 is a major financial drain to most of us and anyone saying that the truck is cheap has deeper pockets than the majority of us. Just rethink your next truck purchase in the future. Ford’s slogan was “Quality is job one”. “Built Ford Tough”.

I have a 2022 2.0 Lariat that I has blemishes/scratch/burr marks on upper driver door panel. My dealer said I damaged the panel and is not a quality issue. I am finding more imperfections in the door materials. I worked in manufacturing for many years and I can say with confidence this is a quality materials issue. I love my maverick. Excellent build quality for the price. But I am not confident that the interior materials will hold up under medium-heavy use. I've been a Ford customer for 50 years, I expect that someone from Ford is monitoring this forum and will provide feedback.
