Would it be better if it was made in Canada with a several thousand dollar markup? Consumers can’t get away from foreign made or foreign assembled products. Some of that is due to the economics of labor, some to supply chain Issues such as computer chips. It would be great if all our products could be totally made here in the US, but the inflationary pressures are too great.

Personally I think its been a goal for any large manufacturer to have a base outside of the US. I don't how much this has to do with labor, exchange rates and an overvalued dollar but I suspect it has the most to do with environmental regulation.

Ford has had designs for moving manufacturing outside of the US for decades. Jaques Nasser himself had something to do with the Hermosillo plant in the early 80's.

When I was ordering my '24 on Monday, the salesman at the desk next to me was telling a young family trying to configure a Maverick that it was made in Laredo (TX),,,,,,,,,

Oh, and that the XLT had a limited choice of colors (the XL does, not the XLT).

Because if it can't be made in Mexico at a price point it has to be made in...Canada(?) for thousands more?

All manufacturers of consumer grade cars use the lowest cost that meets specs. And they would love to move all their northern assembly plants to southern states to lower cost. A bigger problem in America is the lack of younger people wanting to do real jobs like nursing, teaching, manufacturing because they would rather be the next Kardashian.

I assume the article is focusing on the "Star-Spangled Name" because the Maverick is far from the only "American" brand made in Mexico including the iconic Silverado & Sierra pickups.
