I am currently attempting to install a set of Bling Lights Fog Lights on my truck and in my state the fog lights must turn off when the low beams do. If they are wired into a toggle switch, etc,,,, they will fail it on our annual state inspection. This is where I am having the issues.....my plan was to wire the new lights directly into the low beam light wire at the connector on the driver side headlight. I have googled all this and it has me a little scared. What I read was that if you wire directly into that wire it will damage the BCM. It spoke about having to install a 30/40 amp relay and the connect to the low beam....it said you can wire into the switch that came with the lights and use that as the relay.....spoke about locating it under the hood and leaving it in the on position to allow the fogs to work off the low beams. I am scared of damaging something if I try to do it the way I was which was wiring straight into the low beam wire....but I read on here where others have done it with no mention of having to use a relay. the light lights are 12v 55w. Any help/guidance would be greatly appreciated, along with pictures would be da bomb.....I am just worried because I know these hybrids are a beast of their own.....but I sure do love it!

Thanx so much.....Krooozn

Ford simply installs snap-on covers on some of their factory fog lights (Raptor, Bronco Raptor) in order to remain state compliant. Removing them on my Raptors was the first thing I did when I got home.

It's been discussed here multiple times that when adding an old fashioned wiring tap into the brake light circuit, etc. to add a receiver hitch for example is problematic.

I'd install covers at inspection time and remove them after if my State required it..

Old fashioned 55w lights? Not better LEDs?

Edit. I purchased my Raptor R and my Bronco Raptor in Virginia (the OPs state). For brand new vehicles VA still requires an inspection ( which is a pure money grab). Both vehicles had the paper inspection report and the stupid stickers in the windshield. Both had separate fog lights with Fords snap on covers.

good luck

.

first off i'm not the mechanic type beyond the basics, i definitely don't touch electrical/electronics, so with that out of the way, my thoughts: proceed with caution, vehicles now days are rolling computers - unlike the old days so you can open a can of worms in a heartbeat. I've never heard of the Bling fog lights, i did look at their website, its seems the vehicles they list are mostly older years and no mention of the maverick, that raises 1 eyebrow off the bat for me. All i can offer is look thru the similar post at the bottom of this page and use the search window for fog lights and review the results. It might also involved making some changes in the computer programming, i have no idea. Maybe some that have done this type mod will chime in to help. Personally, i would have a professional/experienced shop or person to do it - but that's just me. Good Luck! Keep us posted with your results, we love to see pictures!

If you're that worried go for the F-150 switch and FORScan mod. The headlights have constant power with control wires telling the headlight's internal module what to do so tapping any of those won't help. The low beams (outer lights) stay on with high beams (inner lights) anyway.

Could also break into the headlights and tap the internal wiring as described here if that fancies you more than the well-documented switch mod.

Diode Dynamics taps into the low beam wire and has a switch to turn the fog lights off when not needed. They have a good video tutorial on their website to install on a maverick. I would check their instructions.
