Note that a thumb drive connected to a USB port gives you the ability to play music using voice commands, without a phone connected.
I wasn’t aware of this. How do I make it work?

I'm planning on using a 64TB thumb drive connected to the USB port. I don't know the specs for these data ports which are definitely not in the Maverick manual. I would venture to guess you could go as high as a 256GB thumb drive. Note that a thumb drive connected to a USB port gives you the ability to play music using voice commands, without a phone connected.
I think as long as you only go one folder deep you’ll be fine. It does great with just album folders.

Vespa, is this something you have tried? I purchased two different USB to Aux. 3.5 mm adapters that are supposed to handle analog to digital conversions and neither works. I also noticed the eBay ad says it is mono input/output. Is this true? TIA!

This device works on my laptop and TV, every other device. Instead of guessing, I just went out to try it in the truck. You are correct. It DOES NOT WORK and gives the same BS "THIS USB IS NOT RECOGNIZED" message. I have one other idea that I will be trying this week to get it to work. The equiptment/tech Ford used to make this infotainment system is pure garbage.

Have you tried or found an AUX 3.5 to USB type C cable? NOT an type c to aux 3.5

I have hooked up many Sirius devices over the last 15 years using a XM transceiver. I refuse to use that tech on a 2022 vehicle. It is beyond comprehension that Ford could not have even provided an AUX in plug.

Do they make a Bluetooth transmitter with a 3.5 male plug that can be powered off of the usb jacks? That would be a good solution.

I agree, but that's the way of the world now. An aux plug is considered old technology just like a CD player. New cell phones also no longer have an aux plug/headphone jack, forcing you to use bluetooth earbuds.

I purchased two supposedly 2-way aux. 3.5mm/USB-C adapters and both were supposed to convert digital to analog and analog to digital. Neither worked. I've been looking at more expensive adapters that plug in-inline with the multipoint connector to the radio. I just have to confirm how many pins there are on the connector. There are a couple of empty connectors to the radio as well, but without diagrams I've not been able to identify them. This radio has been used for several years, there has to be more info available than I'm finding.

I understand what you mean about locking down technology when it is so un-necessary. I have so much old technology that still works perfectly and I'm not interested in replacing them. My wife has an old iPhone 5s which I might try to see if CarPlay will work on it. That way I could at least play my music from my iPods.

Since I got all the connections configured correctly, I'm liking the SiriusXM Commander Touch very much. The FM relay module blocks out FM interference well and the result is a clean signal. I would rather have the info on Ford's 8" screen, but the Commander Touch is a pretty descent compromise.

Problem is the lone remaining iPod available, the Touch, is not compatible with Carplay so it's as about as useless as a first gen iPod. Ask me how I know. 😑

It would be better to find a used iPhone that runs the correct generation IOS and use that for the Mav's music source.
Or just use a USB sick for music.

Some of us like music, news, talk shows, sports, etc. etc. etc. My moods change far quicker than I could keep adding things to a USB stick.

This Ford is using old technology, garbage tech. Sync 3 is old garbage tech and we don't get that except on the most expensive package on the most expensive trim.

BTW My brand new Samsung Android phone still has a aux jack.

Good to know. My Galaxy S10 has one too. I'm glad Samsung kept it (for now). I'll never switch to an iPhone.

Don't forget, this is supposed to be a low budget truck. If Ford put all the tech into the truck we all want, it would increase the MSRP by at least $3.00.
