I'm still waiting for my Mav (Oct 2021), but am apprehensive regarding the odd design of the armrests in the front doors. I have absolutely no use for the "water bottle" capability feature, but the absence of a full-length armrest could well prove problematic...my dog insists on sitting in my lap during car-rides, and the armrest is where she puts her feet. I can foresee needing to rig something up to span that gap. Certainly not the end of the world but definitely an annoyance.
You really shouldn't drive with your dog in your lap.

That is so true!! I to had a 1972 Cougar, two door, grey, with a black vinyl roof. It was all frontend for sure. 😊. Loved that car.
I can picture that.
In '72 Cougars were still built on the Mustang undercarriage.
In '77, they had grown...shared a platform with T'bird and Grand Torino.
The Cougar tried real hard to look like a Continental Mark.

It's like my wife said "man, they broke the fry holder." And as I found out last week when I took the dog to the Groomer, yep, she is not a fan either. I don't mind it. just took a couple days to adjust.

I found another design flaw... if you leave stuff in the back, dont close the tailgate, and drive away, your things may roll out.
Just make sure you always park facing downhill. #ProblemSolved

The inside door handles let the door slip out of your hand if the wind is blowing from the rear, you have to pull the lever and grab the handle with the other hand to prevent the wind from blowing the door open in a parking lot. It would have been better to have the door release by the door handle.
Not to sound like a troll, but coming from someone who lives where it's always windy, it's an easy fix. Park the other direction. Wind has always been an issue. And it can happen to anyone, anywhere. Handles have never been perfect for holding against the wind

Say what you want, I don't wear my feelings on my sleeve. Just a few answers to people, I didn't look for any problem, I opened the door when I was in a parking lot and the door flew out of my hand.
In the 70's the doors weighed over 200 lbs and had a big spring with a lever with 2 notches that limited opening.
I don't have a scratch or a dent in my new maverick, I want to keep it that way.
Life to me has been a constant struggle to make things better around me, it was my hope that someone would realize the problem and come up with a fix.

I was undoing my seatbelt with one hand when I opened the door with my other hand and it flew open when the wind caught it, some cars had a limiting strap on the door so it wouldn't damage the hinge.
When I was in the Air Force I did a 30 day stint at Zaragoza Spain where the wind was so bad that all vehicles on the flightline had door straps to prevent the doors from being oversprung by the wind. It was the only time I've seen that in all my travels.

It is not a design problem as the Maverick release is like so many cars that have been made for lots of years.

Maybe on days you know it is windy, you grab the door handle with you left hand and then reach over with your right and pull the door release lever. Then you will have total control over the wind. I just tried it... easy peezy.

Also you might not realize just how far you open the door when you are pulling on the release handle and opening it more than what is needed to fully release the door thus giving it more surface to be caught by the wind.
Yeh, no for anyone who owned an Eclipse before their Maverick will know that the Eclipse doors were much heaver than the Mavericks doors. And since one was modeled after the other, I'm guessing a much lighter door for better mileage, and less forethought into anything else. Just like it's 70's parent.

This. Think airbags.
Your point is well taken. But it's a calculated risk as the only trips the dog takes are twice-per-day to the local DogPark. Also, I'm a very defensive driver. Have never been involved in an accident in 51-years of driving.
As I said, a calculated risk.
But your point is valid.

The front doors have a pocket, it's just out of sight. I can reach deep to the left of the bottle holder, so if I wanted to put something longer across the bottom of the door (like an umbrella), it will fit.

Quick Edit: I agree on the water bottle holder being overrated. Cup holders in the center console work fine, especially since they sit low
Nice tight for ford bottle holder.

Waaaay back in the day I had a 1992 Plymouth minivan and popped the latch with the up-high handle and sure enough stupid high winds that day caught the door and dinged my neighbor's car.

But most cars are the same, that has only happened to me once in 30+ years of driving, and LOTS of different cars from many different manufacturers.....
