1) to cancel my order I have to go to the dealer or call and do it with them?

2) the first edition is only available for year 2021 or will it be available in 2022 or is there a set number for it?
I want to cancel because I feel I want to have more savings in the bank instead of leaving my savings account completely empty (I want to have a big down payment so I can get a 3 or 4 year loan). It will be nice if I can get the first edition built in 2022.

These are 22 Truck models. This is the only year they can be purchased. They will not be available when the Mav moves over to 2023 model this time next year.

First Editions are first model year only. So only 2022 Mavericks have FE models.

You could cancel your order and try to place a new one later in the model year for delivery late next year. But once they close the order book on MY22s, you won't be able to order a First Edition any more. Order books are closing right now for Ford MY21s.

Don't know if 12 months improves your situation enough or if you need more time to save.

If you didn't put anything down to place your order, then I don't see the need to even call them. Once the order has been placed, the dealer won't cancel it. They'll just received it and sell it as a stock unit making more money. It's a win for them, actually.
I'd just leave it as is and you can always change your mind when they call you to pick it up.

In response to #2:

You could keep your current order, make whatever payment you want to as a down payment.

Make over the monthly payment with a principal only payment separate from your obligatory monthly payment. Even a $50 principal only payment every month will reduce your interest and longevity significantly.

Instead of buying a $20 impulse item every week or month, go online and make an additional $20 interest only payment on the loan. With the interest rates published, you would probably do about the same as a "big" down payment. In the long run you won't have to empty your bank account to save the same money and also reach the same length of loan.

I did this 2 vehicles ago when I had a high rate. I paid a 66 month loan off in 18 months by turning impulse buys into payments on the car. Saved a lot in interest payments.

I look at it this way, you could just do a smaller down payment so you don't leave your savings empty and just make slightly bigger payments on the truck. You can still finance it for 48 months to get the .9% APR and the extra interest you would pay will be pretty minimal. You would just be making those larger payments on the truck versus putting money in savings between now and next year. That's just my 2 cents, you'd probably regret not buying the truck but it's unlikely you'd regret buying it.

Maybe I'm just being a bad influence here. 🤣

It's true that it is unlikely First Editions will continue past MY 2022. But there is no guarantee that they will keep them the entire MY either. They could remove FE from the lineup prematurely, also. So there is risk in pulling an FE order if you want to come back at some point in the future. The risk may be worth it, but should be considered.

If the Maverick First Edition is anything like the Bronco and Bronco Sport, there is a set number that Ford is going to make and once they reach that number they won't take any more orders for it even though it will still show on the Build and Price webpage.

Ford does have 0% financing for 36 months and .9% for 48 months. Just FYI.

It's not the same though.
I've had the FE Trim level explained to me in a lot of ways. Here's the rundown:

If you build a Lariat with Lux, Soft-fold Tonneau, and Moonroof, you will see it's only + $140 to get the FE option which is for black mirror caps, painted roof, graphics, and different wheels, which isn't a bad price for that. And its just paint, plastics, and wheels on top of an existing trim level. Since these are relatively easy to implement, its not limited.

The FE Bronco was a "mutt" since it has the OB interior, Wildtrak exterior, and the Badlands drivetrain parts - you can't get the exact same configuration in any other trim level no matter how hard you try, even without the cosmetic-only changes like graphics, paint colors, and wheel colors. This is why it was limited.

And as I had it explained to me when I ordered my FE Bronco: First Edition is the trim name for "First Year Model of a vehicle with the most standard features edition". You will still be able to duplicate it most of the way in the following year however some options may be DIO/DIY installed, but it won't have the same 'uniqueness' factor. After some comparison, I can get a MY22 for $330 less, but it doesn't have the OB-styled interior, no FE badging or graphics, and would still require manually installing the rock rails and brush bar (my cost comparison is matching my 21FE to a 22BL with adding the rock rails and brush bar to the price of the MY22 otherwise equally equipped).

While you can "add" items to the Lariat to make it "almost" like a First Edition without adding the FE Package, it still won't be a "First Edition". After the 2022MY, you won't be able to get a FE model which is why it is still a "Limited Edition" since it is being manufactured for a Limited time and in a Limited quantity. You also can't get certain options in the FE and you can get some options in the FE (such as Rapid Red paint) that you can't get in any other trim level, so your logic is flawed.

Let me quote myself:

BP will let you pick the same soft fold tonneau, moonroof, and lariat lux packages w/o the FE package. So what is left off and different? Again, mirror caps, painted roof, graphics/decals, and wheels. Otherwise, you can get a Lariat that is functionally/feature identical. Same drivetrain, same colors sans Rapid Red (which may change next year - Look at MY22 Broncos - Cyber Orange is now available on all trims, but still a cosmetic difference only). As with ALL First Edition trims, that is a first model year only, which I also noted, but for the Maverick, its not being limited to 3500 or 7000 like the Bronco was.

Revisiting my other statement: "First Year Model of a vehicle with the most standard features edition" . This does not mean it has the top-end configuration, it simply means as a trim level it has more options included as standard items than any other trim offered.

And after asking another dealership this morning, they confirmed It's not numerically limited like the Bronco version, and I cannot find anything from Ford stating otherwise, either.

And I wouldn't trust anything that a dealer has to say since 99.9% of them haven't got a clue and talk out their butts just so you can hear what they think you want to hear. Just read all of the other threads in the forums and try and discount what everyone else is saying about the BullS*t that they are telling customers. You have your opinion and I have mine, and I don't think that Ford would change how they treat a "First Edition" just on one model.

I hear ya, man :) I get some dealerships don't know their sphincter from a hole in the ground, but not all are that way. Mine has generally been pretty well informed overall. For me personally, until and unless Ford clearly states its numerically limited, I won't count on it as I have seen other times where year-model-specific trims are not capped.

Only Ford can confirm. Maybe we can get them to make a statement on if it's actually limited in number here? Otherwise, we just have to wait and see I guess.
