My hybrid is off to the dealer once again after it nearly stranded me. For the second time in 2 weeks the check engine light came on and I loss engine power. Luckily, I just barely limped home on back roads on battery only.

Same code as last time "timing chain has exceeded 95% of it's lifespan. Replace now." Dealer claimed to have fixed with software update last time.

I'm a little uneasy about taking this truck long distances now. Software bugs like this feels pretty unacceptable. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth when a car with <20k miles is already breaking down consistently.

Anyone else experience this?

What say you? ... SAFETY issue.
I know there have been many (many, many) threads about it, but has anyone ever seen the "official" Ford account reply with anything other than a scripted chatbot response?

Edit: Case-in-point, see directly below.

Hi there! Will you send us a message with your VIN and your local Ford dealer? I can look into things on my end.

Update. Dealer is claiming issue is with the engine knock sensor. They want to keep the car several days to monitor.

However they don't offer any courtesy vehicles or rental reburisement. When I asked how do get the work for those days, they very plainly stated that I didn't buy Ford's extended warranty so Im on my own.

Warranty or not, it's up to the individual dealership whether the offer courtesy vehicles. Call around and find a dealership that does. Take it there to get the work done and make it clear to the first dealership why you will not being having them do the work.

Yeah I won't be going back.

Funnily enough, when they handed the vehicle back they said I shouldn't have the engine cutout anymore... And no less than 30min later the truck is back in limp home mode

If you are within the 3 year / 36000 mile warranty and this is covered by Ford they would prefer you go somewhere else. Ford has a fixed rate the dealers are allowed to charge back to ford for in warranty work. If you are just an average joe off the street they are free to price gouge you all they want and it is much more profitable for them.

Another good reason to start an ESP warranty early. It always starts at mile 0, day 0, but some folks want to wait til they are closer to 36k/36 mo. You miss out on the rental part of the ESP and waiting doesn't save you much, as remaining warranty is refundable (at what rate, I don't know) if the truck gets totaled.
