Update 9/16: Added a second video showing the AC turned off altogether. I turned it off when I got home the day before taking this video to try and have a clean start and actually see if it’s the AC or not.

2.0 EB XL 4K

Been experiencing this low humming noise coming from the engine bay after starting it up. The video starts off with the noise then it dies out toward the end. Sometimes it will be consistent other times it will go for a few seconds, stop and repeat.

It might be the transmission with the offset hydraulic pump. My Ranger does it and sounds like a groan but it could be described as humming. It comes and goes with no rhyme or reason usually at idle and low speed/rpm’s. It’s a known thing for the Ranger not all but some and Ford says it’s normal. The sound is the same in your video take it to the dealer if you’re concerned.

I’m at 14k on the Ranger but haven’t heard it lately.

thanks for the input, groaning is definitely a better way to describe it. I’ve probably heard it every time that I’ve used it for the past 2-3 weeks, low gear shifting does feel harder than higher. I’m just under 5k miles.

I’m really not familiar with this at all but should this be a big enough concern for the dealer to look at it in your opinion?

I would say nothing to worry about but if it would make ease your mind then take it in.

You may hear it resonate at the front passenger’s floorboard too.

Hey there. Can you send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer? I would like to see what I can do to assist with your Maverick's engine noise.

The volume is quite low but I believe I hear more of a "pecking" than a hum. I believe it's the electric AC Condenser running. Try turning off the AC and see if it stops? Bear in mind that the condenser can run for reasons other than the cabin in the hybrid.

Hey there! I can look into your Maverick’s noise concerns on my end if you’d like. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info?

Just throwing things out there, check belt pulleys, harmonic balancer, A/C compressor clutch, timing chain. I know, should not happen with a new vehicle. Troubleshooting engine noises can be very difficult and frustrating. Could be temperature dependent.

I thought the same thing about the AC, but it still makes the same noise with the AC off. Not sure about the pecking noise but when you hear it inreal Time it’s definitely low and dull. I kind of wish it could have narrowed down to just the AC tho.

Great suggestions, might try to diagnose again tomorrow. From what I can tell all belts are good, AC is good. Might just be a random rub or lube issue somewhere.
