I have no idea. 🤷‍♂️ According to a google AI search pasted below (note, I don't put a lot of faith in AI at this point nor much else on the internet being much more than opinions)

Yes, auto insurance for a hybrid truck is generally more expensive than for a traditional gas-powered truck, typically costing between 5% and 15% more. While specific rates vary by model and driver, national data from 2026 suggests hybrid owners may pay roughly $20 to $30 more per month than those with comparable gas-only vehicles.

Why Hybrid Trucks Cost More to Insure
  • Higher Vehicle Value: Hybrid trucks typically have a higher initial purchase price than gas models—sometimes up to $3,000 more—which increases the insurer's potential payout for a total loss.
  • Specialized Repair Costs: Repairs for hybrids often require specialized parts (like battery packs) and technicians with advanced training, leading to higher labor and material costs.
  • Theft Risk: Certain hybrid components, such as catalytic converters, are frequently targeted by thieves because they contain higher amounts of precious metals like rhodium and palladium.
  • Increased Mileage: Insurers often find that hybrid owners drive more miles to maximize fuel savings, which statistically increases the risk of an accident.
  • Pedestrian Risk: Because hybrids are extremely quiet at low speeds, they have historically been linked to a higher rate of low-speed pedestrian accidents.
Potential for Savings
Despite higher base premiums, you can often offset these costs through:
  • Green Vehicle Discounts: Many insurers offer a 5% to 10% discount for eco-friendly vehicles.
  • Advanced Safety Features: Many newer hybrid trucks come standard with cutting-edge safety technology that can lead to lower liability rates.
  • Lower Maintenance: While insurance is higher, hybrids often require less routine maintenance than gas trucks, potentially balancing your overall ownership costs.

I have a 25’ hybrid and I pay about $70 a month with State Farm.
I’ve never thought too much about it. I’ve had the same company and agent for probably 30 years and they have taken very good care of me when I needed them.

Which company was it? I'd start shopping around and compare different rates, then go to your company and tell them you'll switch if they dont make it right.

new cars are ridiculously expensive to fix, and as people are finding out, get totaled out quick, even in minor accidents. my brothers mav was hit, didn’t look to bad, 27k indamage. 8 months old and a few thousand miles. totaled. safer vehicles, but crumple in hard to fix areas. doesn’t mean i like the huge increase in insurance cost over the 2017 vehicle i had though lol

somewhere in the internets there is a shop that did a video with a f150 with the aluminum bed, back up sensors, etc. sitting next to it was a one year old with no aluminum, no sensors. staggering how much cost difference to repair just taillights

I posted about totaling my Maverick on a deer a couple weeks ago.

it was a 23 XLT with BAP and Luxury package- Gas

purchased a 2026 XLT with luxury package hybrid and insurance went up $79/month

MSRP on vehicles were essentially identical.

any body have similar experience
Wow, no insurance bashing. Must be a more educated class of people on this site. I don't think anyone likes paying premiums but seems most here seem to understand the process. Still, always worth shopping it as different carriers use different formulas and there is always a potential that one could be significantly less money due to their weighting of factors.

I can't see how people try to compare shopping for insurance, and shopping for a vehicle. When shopping for a vehicle, you have a basic price to go from dealer, to dealer, and see who wants to give you the best deal. Insurance depends on lots of factors, how many drivers use the vehicle, their driving history, their age, tickets, claims, and most important, where you live.

I expeerienced an location based insurance issue years ago (not related to a Mav). I moved from Orlando to Tampa. Initally rented a condo in Tampa while looking for a house. My insurance rate just about doubled. Alleged reason was Tampa did not chase vehicles that cause accidents, were speeding, etc. Anyway, bought house. The zip code spaned two counties. Since that's all the insurance company looked at , my rate went back down to close to Orlando. About 5 years later, someone figured out the zip code issue and added a set asking what county you were in. Yeah, rate went back up.
Yup, live in Florida across the bay from you in Pasco County. I have USAA and when I had the Bronco Sport, I had two windshield claims in 2 years. Traded in on the Lobo and tried to go with Progressive, which my partner has. They denied me because of the windshield claims. Had to stick with USAA and insurance went up from the Bronco by $30. Florida rips you off when it comes to Insurance. So I totally feel you there.

It was a comprehensive claim so shouldn’t effect my accident history.

The payout on my 23 was $27K had 50K miles.

The MSRP on the new one was $35635, paid 32,891.

Still had sticker form 2023 was $32k

just find it crazy that the premiums were increased so much, should make up for it in gas but, that’s life in America and Louisiana insurance
Just based on the value increase, the insurance would go up 30% ($35K-$27K)/$27K
Insurance doesn't care what you paid for either vehicle.. They set rates what they would have to pay out in a loss.
Rates are also influenced by how others drive. If lots of Mavericks get totaled, everyone's rates go up. It's why sports cars are expensive to insure. Drive careful everyone.

A 23 XLT is close to $ 9000 less than a 26 XLT.

I was just reading an article about profits among the insurance industry leaders and how Geico ended 2025 with a 6.8 Billion dollar profit and that was with a 13% decrease in profits from the previous year.

I wish I had known you too were in Louisiana. I could have checked that truck for some goodies prior to being sent to the junker. Maybe they’ll put it in LKQ nearby.
