This is what I ended up going with. I just keep a 2x6 shelf and divider in the bed pretty much all the time, with the divider ripped down so it's even with the half-height tailgate and the wheel wells. Whatever I'm hauling I just slide across those three supports, works great for both sheet goods and boards and the fact that the load is elevated means I get a ton of downward pressure from the straps

Terrific approach. What tie down straps did you use? What are the cut down heighth and width of the 2x6’s? I notice that one 2x6 is on edge and the other appears to be flat with a spacer underneath. What are dimensions? What length of lumber are you hauling? Anxiously awaiting my 2024 Maverick to be built in April/May.

Sorry, I don't have measurements on the 2x6s. I just took a rough measurement with a measuring tape, cut them a little generous and then nibbled down the fit until it was just right. No support under the horizontal shelf, I'll add one if I ever catch it bowing but it seems fine so far. Straps are just some regular Husky ratchet straps from Home Depot, nothing special. And you're looking at 8' and 10' 2x4s in that photo

so having just moved some lumber (less than you moved there) today I'm wondering about if you are concerned with the lumber sliding backwards. I was a little worried so I put the tail gate at half height so the boards were inclined slightly. Then I strapped them down. unfortunately I don't have D-rings on the floor of the bed up near the cab so I don't have a great way to exert down pressure on the front end of the load. I guess I should look into buying those D rings.

edit: should have noticed how old this post was!
