Not sure about you, but, once you pickup your new rig, you start remembering the influences (not dastardly influencers) of what got you going in a particular direction. Once it cools down after the summer, I love mountain biking here in the desert southwest and historically with either driving my classic Jeep or my previous Volvo V90, I would use a bike hitch mount. Since I ride solo 9999999.9999% of the time, putting on my hitch mount bike rack is a PIA. Thus, around here I noticed most riders use a "diaper" which is basically a heavy duty cover over your tailgate and you just hang your bike over the edge. My last convo with someone out where I ride was a guy in a Maverick with his g/f (g/f was hot so not sure of the Maverick influence or not 
) but I remember asking him about his Mav versus all the other trucks and 4WD's in the parking lot. His authentic enthusiasm must have sealed the deal in my head because I was sort of deadset getting a VW of sorts.
Anyhoo, in my first buys for my truck I bought a Bomber Strap. This will be so perfect even with my canopy. I will need to make an incision in my bedliner to put the strap through but not worried. I have not implemented this yet or gone riding yet because we are having out last heat wave these next two weeks.
