I would rather take out a loan. I assume you will be with drawing $30,000 or more. You might have more of an upside on your 403B? You will have to pay income tax on what you withdraw. Just a few things to think about. BTW, I have withdrawing from my 401K for over 17 years and still have as much as when I retired.
Unfortunately that balance is worth less than half as much in purchasing power as it had 27 years ago. Nevertheless making the $400 payment is the better thing for most even if it's paid into a savings plan that can generate a larger income. My brother has $15k in his garage sale pocket, he works 4/10's spends 3hrs Fridays and 2hrs Saturdays buying. Afternoons finds homes for purchases while keeping really good stuff. In bad year only triples his $15k. He will be 75 in October and plans on keeping his 4/10's job he has had since early 70's. (He is drawing his retirement since he turned 65 but still contributing the limit with company matching which increases his monthly check annually). He loves his lifestyle and has no desire to change it just to spend what he doesn't need. He generally only buys a new vehicle every 12-15 years and lives in home our grandfather built in early 1930's(?).

Will be writing a check as a number of others indicated they would. I tl;dr 'ed the thread so don't know if anyone reported having this experience, but last time we did this the dealer required us to sign finance docs before letting us drive the vehicle off the lot. Were told it would otherwise take a few days to process our check.

Will see if this happens again... 🤔

One good thing about waiting for this, is I’m allowed to save some $ for purchase. But nearly all of this, I’m withdrawing from 403b retirement account, as now I’m past the 59.5 years old and don’t have an early withdraw penalty..Im sure Dave Ramsey wouldn’t agree, but I don’t want to be paying $400 or whatever for 5/6 years. So how are you paying for it?
Does anyone know what the offered interest rate was 9/2022 when the MY23 order banks were open?

I put 20k down and finance the rest. Interest rate is bit high on a 5yr loan but my monthly payment is below $300 a month. I can payoff early as needed. Insurance and registration on the other hand is ridiculous.

Walked in ready to write a check. Dealer found us another $500 for financing, so we financed then paid it off before the first payment was due. Probably cost the finance manager his kickback, but oh well. We've done this for our last three vehicle purchases.
Thats how i did it. Healthy downpayment. Virginia Farm Bureau has a $500 credit, they also financed. Payed it off in 6 months with a monthly payment at 5.99 percent. Credit Bureaus give lots of points after 6 months. None if you pay it off straight away.

I had 13k in equity from my trade. The dealer got me 7.9% financing for an additional 1k off which I did. 2 days later my bank paid off the loan and gave me 4%. My savings is paying over 5% so why lose 1%. But sounds like you got a deal.

I just got an email from a credit union where I still have an account telling me that I was pre-approved for a loan that would lower my payment.

They pulled the payment (which they included in the email) and approximate balance from my credit report, and suggested a new payment.

While it was indeed a lower payment, the rate was more than a point higher than I'm already paying! so I guess they' tacked on an extra two years!

Car salesman and banks feast on people who only focus on the monthly payment. That's why there are 7 and 8 year terms for new loans these days.

I traded in my Escape and wrote a check for the rest. Unfortunately, Ford wasn't offering 0% on the Mav like I got on the Escape so there wasn't any free money.

Back in the 1990s, I had the same conversation over and over with different clients.

"Mr. Hawkins, my sears bill is wrong."
"And how is that?"
"That's what I borrowed, and that was two or three years ago."
"Let's see. You have an interest rate of 21%, or 1.75% per month, and you always make the minimum payment of 2%. And you have a late charge every month."

[ note: it wasn't "Dr." back then ]

I really don't know off the cuff whether my loan is six or seven years.

I took the longest term at which I could get the sweet rate, 4.75 or 4.85%, I think. And then I segregated that exact amount into it's own Roth. It automatically sells the payment's each month, and dumps it into an account that autoplays.

14 payments in, after making about $10k in payments, I have about $18k more than when I started. I'll take 5% money for as long as they want to loan it to me!

I post a quarterly log of it at https://www.mavericktruckclub.com/f...nt-returns-and-loan-for-my-25-maverick.63547/

Ford didn't have any financing specials when I bought mine.
I took my Z plan price and brought them a check for the full amount.
