I’ve been meaning to try disconnecting my factory tweeters and see how that sounds since the door speakers I put in are coaxial. Don’t really need the highs blasting off the windshield into my face, is the thought.
It would be a very quick and easy test for sure because the panels up there are simple to get off.

Just throw a towel or blanket over them.

I think that's an idea worth testing.

I just installed the K165 in my mav today, and so far its a fair decent upgrade, although I didn't do any changes to the stock eq settings and kept the in line crossover, a little too bright, but im wondering if i should cut the in line resistor, or forscanchange to flat eq output. thought from other kit users?

mine came with an adapter from Crutchfield but the tweeter has wire ends and the adapter has blades. So there still seems to be a need to cut and splice.

Also, did you play around with the adapters for the tweeters? There seems to be a bezel that will allow it to snap in place but it slides on and won’t hold the tweeter. Just use tessa tape to hold with friction?

I installed the Hertz k170 components and the sound upgrade was well worth it. I'm only powering them with the stock power, I imagine it would sound even better with a aftermarket amp.

Yeah if you look at my photo of the Twitter I have that flush mount bezel on it still doesn't make it wide enough to be just held in place like the OEM Twitter but that has its own style adapter made to fit the OEM opening. This is why without any major modifications I just used a bout 3/16 of cloth Tessa tape which to this day holds its snugly in place without falling through or popping out of the dash tweeter opening.

I originally tried to take the OEM tweeter out of the housing to utilize that but it's glued and plastic welded into place you destroy it trying to take it apart.

Thanks. What about the wiring? The metra harness has blades and the tweeter wire is bare ends. I assume I cut the blades off the harness and splice them.

https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120725605/Metra-72-5605-Speaker-Wiring-Harnesses.html

I used this metra wire harness which fit perfectly for the tweeters I just cut off the connectors from the Metro harness and shorten the length of the tweeter wires and used cider with heat shrink connectors to connect the Twitter wiring to the Metro harness.

I didn't break any clips but I did have two of the white plastic snap tabs I call them fall off into the dash and somehow miraculously before I remembered to order them while driving they fell out onto the passenger and driver side floor mats.

Thankfully I was able to reinstall them with no harm done about 2 weeks later. 🙄🤣🤣🤣
