I've had my primary vehicle since I bought it new 11 years ago. It's moderately-plus(?) modified and great fun, but life situations have changed a lot and so have vehicles! I decided not to trade it in, but I have been shopping for a new vehicle for a couple years. Test drove lots of things, including some bigger ticket options (Raptor, A6 Allroad, Explorer ST, Velar, Evoque, etc.) I was driving around the other day and saw a Maverick on the road, in the wild, and decided to go home and do my research. (Completely unknowing about the Maverick's "situation" at this point, but having found out the order bank dates), I check out the build and price, and decided on an Orange Lariat Lux Hybrid, Black Appearance, Spray Bed. Checked my local dealer(s) inventory and one of them had 20 Mavericks in inventory, so I figured I could at least look at them and see the differences in person and test drive one and possibly start an order. This was around July 3rd.
Show up at the dealership and they have 1 on the lot. One total Maverick. At least it's a Lariat Hybrid. Jump in with the family, everyone loves it. After the drive we sit down and the team explains the situation. They are rolling a bunch of existing orders into 2024s. Some people across the country have waited 500+ days for theirs. So they might not be able to order a new one for me, they have to wait for allocations. Dang, cuz I really liked this vehicle. They take my info and will contact me as they get closer to order bank day. I also decide to submit my contact info to the other Ford dealer in town, just to improve my odds... which I will probably need.
So I start searching nationwide and I find an Oxford one at a dealership about 2.5 hours away. Give them a call, aaaand it's a custom order already sold and waiting to be picked up... which is apparently a LOT of the listed inventory out there (as I found out). It was $5k over sticker anyway, so I wasn't too sad. They give me stock numbers to vehicles that they have, but aren't listed on their site. Kinda weird, but hey... shoppin' Mavericks. They have a nice Atlas Blue one that has all the things I want, but they want $45k for that (+ charge destination twice? did I understand them wrong, I don't think so, it was already on the sticker). They know what they have, they won't budge on price. "Sorry we couldn't make a deal". And the search continues.
Check out listings a couple nights later. Another Oxford white one, this has all the packages and things, but price is listed at sticker. I figure it's just another custom order waiting for a happy owner to come pick it up, but I send my info over asking about availability and price. Also, it's 3 states and 7+ driving hours away. (This is July 8th now, I've been looking for Mavericks for 5 days now.) Get the text the next morning that there was a lot of overnight interest, and that they were not able to sell to dealers or brokers and if I was a private buyer to call asap. I called. I got he window sticker, it was perfect, although I didn't need the moonroof or the 360 copilot, but it did match everything else and $2k more for actual equipment was much better than raw markup. He said first deposit gets it, and I said "take my money."
Spent the next week finishing paperwork, flew up this morning. He picked me up at the airport and when we got to the shop he handed me keys, we went for a ride around the block and then he helped me set up my FordPass. That was it, I was out the door with and driving back home in under 30 mins. Did I mention that he even got the bed sprayed at the Line-X shop around the corner for the same price as a factory spray, which I was more than willing to pay for.
It took 12 days to get mine and it was $37k out the door (I still have to pay the full tax and tag in my state, probably $600) with the best buying experience I could have imagined. Dreams really can come true! (insert Disney princess here)
I also drove 7:22:03 for 467 miles back home in one straight shot and had "52 miles to E" when I got home. What a great start!
Now, time for mods! Already have a bunch of the required amazon things (tailgate lettering, tailgate damper, console double decker inserts, cargo net, mudflaps, stubby antenna). I've had the Eibach pro-kit lowering springs on my other vehicle for about 10 years now, so I will be getting the Maverick a set. Also planning on a Truck2Go roll-up tonneau, window tint all around, and finally (never finally!) the Kia homelink dimming mirror and dashcam at the same time. Maybe wheels and tires down the round, but I really don't want to go heavier or to 8in+ width (which is pretty much every wheel option available for the Maverick), I want to hypermile this bad boy. I already have 18x8, AWD, and 22-24 mpg on the other vehicle.
The site has already been a great resource and I look forward to participating!
