About a week ago the check engine light got went on - managed to get it checked (it's amazing how busy the dealers are) and it turns out I need a new heat exchanger (and I gave to wait because maverick and because there are no parts generally).
Anyone knows what the heat exchanger does? Will I damage my car if I continue to drive with it broken (dealer told me I'm good).
Hybrid Mav if it makes a difference .

I think the heat exchanger supplies heat to the cabin. I do not know if driving with a damaged heat exchanger would hurt truck or not.

Did you ask them why you need a new one? I doubt the dealer would tell you heat exchanger in place of "heater core" but I don't know what the repair books call it out as.

The other possibility could be any of the external coolers that have air pass through them and in exchange reduce the temps of the fluid oil/trans/etc... or intercooler.

I wouldn't go blindly believing any repair shop without asking for the codes if any were thrown and/or to see what is failed.

The hybrid has a system that uses the exhaust to heat the engine coolant, it probably has something to do with that.

If it's under the truck, then yes, this.
You need to ask for more detailed info.

Almost for sure this.
If you had a code, we'd know for sure.
Not a "must have" to drive, but the colder the climate; the more you need/want to have this.

This is also an item catalytic converter thieves are likely to steal or destroy, unfortunately.

I'll go back once they receive the part.

I forgot to add, before going I've read the error code anyself with a device - did not find anything online about the specific code.

What is the code? See above.

I've noticed that oil does not reach normal operating temperature. Drove yesterday for about 2h and oil temperature was at 1st gauge mark.
Hope it won't take forever for the service to get the part necessary to fix my car.

The temperature gauge on your dash is for water temperature.

Hybrids have two separate "cooling" systems. One for the engine and another for the battery and electric motor electronics. In addition to the hybrid's exhaust heat exchanger there is a heat exchanger to heat/cool the HV battery and one to cool the motor electronics.

Hybrid system seems to be fine (by how the car drives and the mpg).

Yep, there is a low temp (EV) coolant loop and a high temp (ICE) loop. The cooling needs of both systems are naturally quite different. The reservoir is actually 2 in 1 which is why it has 2 caps (see B & C below). So be sure you're checking both levels.

A question for the hybrid owners: water temperature is normally low on your car or ~50% after a couple of minutes after start?
They are now telling me it's normal to have it low (about all the time)

It's lower than 50% by design unless you are sustained high speed driving or going up hills. That's good news for all of us. Hot water = wasted gasoline.

Just coming off the C = 120°F
First Tic Mark = 155°F
A little less than vertical = 185°F

30 minutes of slow speed city (all under 40 MPH) with lots of EV, this photo: on a +40 degree day.
