I use detectors in all my cars...even with Waze on. I had a Uniden R3 and Beltronics Rx65s. Liked both brands.

If you are looking for one and have a Samsclub membership you can find the Uniden R4 at a great price. It was about $289 in most stores but they are getting rid of the units so they have a clearance. I noticed that the prices online and at each store varied significantly and dropped in stages over just a few days at a couple of the stores. I bought 2 at $259 and then saw them at another store for $235 and $224 at a third store. I ordered 2 more online at $235 but when I went to pick them up I asked to use a different charge card (more rewards back). They backed out the charge and ran them through and the price had dropped to $199!!! I ended up buying four (family members wanted a few) and returned the previous ones I bought from another store at the higher price. These are selling out fast and once the stock is gone that's it I think. Some stores had none in stock when I was checking and the prices are all over the board! I doubt they will drop much lower than the $199 - that was in Newington, CT.

Make sure your store is selected and is the local store price and not the web site general price. U can change your store location to other nearby stores to see their prices...not sure if u can ship to home for free even if u have the plus membership

Samsclub states that the web prices and store prices may not be the same.

I noticed that when I logged in late last night well after the stores were closed I checked two of the previous store sites and they listed the price at $289 even though during the day they listed prices of 235 and 224 (each store seems to have different clearance prices right now). HOWEVER THE STORES WERE CLOSED when i checked last night late and I think after a certain time you are displayed the corporate web price EVEN if you have the store assigned in the upper left corner of your web price. I bought all four on Wed Aug 14 so it would be hard to see them getting rid of the clearance (91 code according to a store employee) between Wed and Thurs. Samsclub pricing kinda sucks sometimes but as a last resort actually go inside the Samsclub to see what the price is if they have a yellow sticker attached to the listing. Also check the wep page for a couple of stores after the stores have been open for an hour to see if the price suddenly changed.

When I checked three stores that had them on clearance this morning at 7AM all three stores listed the price at $289. (Fishkill NY, Wallkill NY, Newington, CT) but that is not the price they were in the stores on Wed Aug 14. Either the web site is not yet giving the stores actual price or the clearance suddenly ended Wed night.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply...I'll give it another shot this morning when the store opens. The thing is, I might buy it anyway. Even at $289 is still a heck of a deal.

Thanks for the heads up. The only reason I have a Sam’s club membership is because they had the cheapest price on the R4 last year at $289. Hopefully I can pick up another one at $199.

For those that don’t know, the R4 is the most sensitive radar on the market. When I’m coming up on a highway patrol that is running KA instant-on, the R4 picks it up 20 seconds before the KA goes to full energy mode (the instant-on part). But my passport 360 is silent until the instant-on radar goes to full energy mode. Watch some YouTube reviews comparing uniden to passport.

And the uniden flagship R8 that costs twice as much, is the same thing as the R4, but with forwards and reward looking antennas, where the R4 only has one antenna, and it looks forward.

I didn't now that . I only read that the R4 was more technically advanced and performed better than the R3 for range detection. The R3 had better range than the older popular Beltronics RX65s that I have which are at least 6 years old and cost about $170 way back then. If you can get an R4 for $199 I don't think you can find anything close to the performance and features compared to other units on the market. There was no way I wanted to spend $600-$800 for one unit since these things do go bad sometimes after a few years. I doubt there will be any newer frequencies or methods used for speed detection in the near future.

Some of the items are "on consignment" = rented shelf space by vendor = there is cut off of contract date and remaining units are shipped back to vender. Not sure but there is most likely a cut off CODE SYMBOL or date in fine print of clearance tag! I let my sams expire due to Costco being more convenient.
Edit to add: always watch for clearance items because of the 30 day lower price match guarantee for prior purchase!

I had bought an R7 but installing it I broke the suction cup mount. I returned it. Ended up buying a Radenso DS1 very happy with it. I have always used a radar detector and feel naked without one. One ticket can pay for itself.

I had to check and see the exact model, but I was running a 2018 “Escort max 360c” and after 5 years, the LED screen was so faint that I couldn’t see the readout screen except in the dead of the night. It would still make noise, but I couldn’t see the direction arrows or what frequencies it was picking up. My nemesis, the CHP uses ka from 34.100 to 34.300 mhz, so seeing the readout is helpful.

So after checking the reviews I got a Uniden R4 and then ran both the Escort and the Uniden for about a month to compare the performance.

The Uniden does have a few more K and X band false alerts, but the sounds are different for each band and the sound of the KA alert and the Laser alert gets seared into your brain and you learn to ignore the K and X alerts.

Almost every time that the Escort would go off with a KA alert, the Uniden had been going off for 20 seconds or more.

For example; cop running KA radar in low power mode, sitting on the on-ramp of an elevated overpass. You can’t see him when approaching the onramp, because it is an elevated overpass and the onramp is sloping downward and he is hidden behind the slope. The Uniden will start going off 1/4-1/2 mile before the overpass. The Escort 360 starts going off after you go under the overpass, you are in the line of sight of the cop and his radar goes into high power mode to get a lock on you. After seeing that happen multiple times, I became a Uniden devotee.

for laser performance, they were equal. If one went off, they both went off.

My local store, Santa Clarita, CA, wants full price, $289.

Most of the other stores in the LA area also want $289. Of the ones that were offering discounts, most are already sold out.

I found a store that is selling them at $214, but they only have 2 left and it’s 90 miles away. Spend $25 in gas and 3 hours drive time to save $75? Or maybe find out that they are also already sold out? 😝

Jeez Louise, I may have to upgrade again. Seems like just yesterday, I upgraded my fuzz buster to my Cobra trapshooter 3.

I think Sam’s Club is just getting rid of their inventory. I bought an R3 for $400 in 2018 and it no longer works, so this would be a good replacement. I have read that the R4 is much better than the R3 or any front antenna only detector in its class.

Don't need a radar detector, I just stick "Bio Hazard" stickers on my doors and tailgate. Great for parking lots too.

I had some people check states other than the NY/Conn area and no one reported seeing them for less than $199 so that currently appears to be the lowest price at this time and maybe until they are sold out.

I also noticed that it appears you could only have it shipped to you when the price was at $289 from the main warehouse directly and not from the individual stores. I didn't see shipping options to your home allowed from the stores with the reduced clearance prices.
