I can answer a couple of questions here.

RF - there is a section in the manual that actually discusses frequencies and wattage and antenna placement.

I run a 10/11 meter radio so I can talk on both with 1 antenna (yes it’s a no no but I’m not installing two radios in my truck). I have a KL amp doing about 100 watts. Antenna is mounted on bed rack far right corner. No RF issues.

I put my radio underneath the usb plug area up front. KL Amp is in the truck bed cubby and gets power from the accessory plug in the bed. Draws about 8-10 amps and I’m mostly only doing SSB. Left switch in the on position and it turns on and off with the truck.

I don’t do 2 meter anymore just not as interesting to me as talking DX. Talked to Australia yesterday and Sweden a couple days ago while driving around. Talked to Japan this summer and Talk across the US daily, conditions have been great.

I'm still trying to just f igure out how to use my mobile HAM radios. I have the programming software, etc. Aced my Technician test (100%) and bought the study manual for General.

I don't know how to figure out the offsets, etc, and not even sure there's a tower within range of my 1 watt handhelds. I really got my Ham for my FPV drones (VTX transmitters are in the Amateur radio range), but my dad's been a Ham for longer than I've been alive (60+ years). So I grew up watching him talk to the International Space Station, bouncing RF around the world, ham fests, etc.

Hi John, I am from Riverside and am a 2nd gen ham. Plenty of repeater stuff in your area. Keller peak is a great one. It covers all over So Cal. and is located above Running Springs area. I have hit that machine with an HT from over 40 miles away through mountain ranges and even in the pacific ocean while on a cruise. Repeaterbook dot com is a great source. It will show you the offsets and PL tones as well. If you need any help just hit me up. (K B 6 M A T at gmail.com Check out my station pics on QRZ..MATT
