If you want to do something like this get aftermarket lights and wire them to the cab.

I can't say that I see a need to or a reason, but some of the idiots on this forum should just chill. There are solutions though. Just learn to ignore the idiots here. Don't fall victim to their interrogation or try to justify your needs to them.

You would need to come up with the wiring schematic for that circuit, and switch it over to a switched hot vs. it's current path. Probably not hard once you know what wires to address.

The quicker/easier solution would probably be to carry a nice Maglight or similar.

not sure a mag light would be very good as it probably wouldn't shine through the rear window very well. plus the difficulties in using, aiming and looking with a mag light while driving. when if there was a button i could press it and just look through the rear view mirror quickly to glance.

those lights one of you posted on amazon aren't a good option either as there still wouldn't be a button i could press to turn it on and off. with the amazon lights i'd either have to leave them on or off all the time and only be able to switch while stopped. when i'm stopped i can just use the bed light that's already there

The truck doesn't let you keep the cargo lights on once the speed reaches a certain point. Is there anyway to turn this off? I know it's illegal to drive with the cargo lights on but if there's nobody behind me shouldn't it be my own personal choice to turn them on for a second if I want to see in the bed while driving?
How are you going to see in the bed while you're driving?

Just giving him a hard time. It’s not that big of a deal. The lights don’t come on, there’s no need for him to make it into a bigger deal than it is.

I can see making it so the lights cannot be switched on and stay on, but being able to hold the button for a few seconds would be a handy thing. So would a camera where the third brake lights are and being able to switch between it and the tailgate reverse camera.

My 2010 Tundra allowed cargo lights while driving, so I replaced them with red LEDs to stay legal, because there's fun to be had with tailgaters.
