Sometimes all you can do is make a decision based on an opinion, even if there is no way to test it before hand. Then it works or doesn't and you learn for the next time.
The start stop eliminator does not permanently remove the stop start. It allows you to chose to have it on or off. Your selection stays until you push the button again. You just don’t have to push it every time you start it.This trip was all city, had a ton of stoplights, weather was a pleasant 67°F. Did not need heating or air conditioning. Was slightly downhill (300 foot drop out of 13 miles).
The hybrid battery helped some, but not a lot. The elevation drop was too slight for any meaningful regeneration. Did allow some coasting in the 40 MPH zones where wind resistance isn't huge.
What got this great MPG was not so much the battery, as it was shutting the engine off at all those stoplights. About 15 of them, and about 10 minutes of cumulative engine off time.
If I had an EB there would be specific times I'd want the engine to stay on, and there would be others, such as this 13 mile commute that I'd want it to cycle.
Having OPTIONS with a button seems Win-Win to me.
Guess I'm overly practical.
Because of all the stoplights, the EB with auto-stop disabled would net about 20 MPG on this same drive. With it on, probably 40 MPG.
Or I could just buy a horse.Nice!

I like the auto stop start function, but to each his own.Got this on eBay and installed it today. Works great. Plug n play. Had to remove eight small screws in console to lift it up enough to reach under and release the 4 button panel. I tried using small screwdrivers to release it but had no luck. So I went the long way but it wasn’t bad or scary at all. I guess about 20 or 30 minutes . I just couldn’t justify spending 99 bucks on the under the dash one. I will take the $80 I saved and go to Disneyland.
Spot on! I can’t stand all the electronics on my XL eco boost! I’m going to sell mine. Even the touch screen (radio) drives me nuts. I recently got a 2006 E-350 van. 415,000 miles on it. On its second engine and transmission. The thing purrs like a kitten. Hasn’t got a single leak or use any oil. It’s a theft recovery and I paid $638.00 for it. I replaced the windshield and a back side window along with the ignition (key) switch. I love this thing. No screen, no drive modes. It’s always in the right gear. Terrible mileage but I’ll still come out on top with insurance and car payments. Can’t wait to go camping in it and bring everything but the kitchen sink with room to spare! When I tire of this I’ll go find a 2000’s era ranger. I’m done with modern vehicles.
Gas prices < Engine longevity, any day. I understand why people want to save in the front end, but I keep vehicles for the long run. After changing starters on various FWD based engines, I can tell you that it isn't fun, and having to change a flywheel is even less enjoyable.Nice!
