How did he steal the truck in the first place? Unless he broke into the owners house and took the keys? Or is there a way to hot wire the truck that I need to worry about now???

A couple of nights ago, one of the members of our Mustang club reported exactly that.

It was one of the super-small runs (500), and their house was just plain ransacked looking for the keys!

It looks to be a reasonably happy ending coming up; the police think they know who did it and are looking. Also kind of hard to sell one of those--someone applied for a lost title out of state, though!

There are still methods of stealing cars without the keys. Even vehicles with smart keys/intelligent access can have the signal intercepted and copied to make a key. There are also OBD based hacks.

Crooks are often aware of ways to steal stuff that even the manufacturer are not aware of. . As soon as the manufacturer makes a more secur anti theft system, crooks quickly find a way to bypass and defeat it. . I'm convinced that some engineers are double agents who design a system then share its vulnerabilities with the crooks 😅
