As a new Maverick owner, I just discovered the FITS stuff today. It looks like the 3D hobby-ish nature of item production as envisioned by Ford might be limiting the variety of items available. The need to produce an item that is exclusively designed for FITS may also be a limitation. Has anyone produced a generic "male" insert part that would fit the "female" receptacles on the vehicle, and would allow accessories already available in the marketplace to be adapted to FITS (by fastening those items to the "male" insert)?

Look on Thingiverse, Makerworld, and those kinds of websites. If anyone (forum member or not) has made one, that's where they'd upload it so you could print it or have it printed.

FYI, several commercial accessory makers are making items with the FITS plug already.

If I remember correctly, lift the back seat and I think there is a tag that you can scan to get ideas and possibly get the needed instructions for 3D printing. (way beyond my skill level). As said before, the fits plug is available on different sites.

What I had in mind was the FITS plug sold as a standalone item, so that other objects could be fastened to it, which could then in turn be mounted via the FITS sockets. Has the naked plug been offered for sale anywhere?

I had my son print a bunch of them...............I'm sure I have some lying around. I used one and attached it to a dollar tree trash can for the truck. it would cost more to mail than what your local library would charge to print you one (if you have a library with a 3d printer)

I was thinking that if I wanted to glue something to the insert, the 3d plastic might be a but too slick. I'm going to measure the "socket" and see if I could easily fabricate something from aluminum sheet.

you could attach with a nut/bolt. Just countersink the back side to fit the slot.

I used 1/2" hex head screws (for aluminum downspout straps) to attach the can to the FITTS plug.
