This is something ive been working on. Still playing around with Designs. Wanting to try and light it up. I want this to light up and im testing various lights to see what looks best.

Was hoping to use clear and I think it worked ok but there was no to no diffusion. I'm trying different filament colors to see if I could get something to work better.

The first white filament I tried ended up turning the white light yellow

I'm thinking of reducing outside thickness to put a colored plate on top that only leaves the edges exposed for light to go through. I've got a matte black to try this with. still need to modify the design to do that.

I'm only using an Ender 3 v1 and PLA filament at moment. There isnt much more I can do with this at moment.

Just a small update. Havent been working much on this lately. Tried printing in several versions of white but kept getting color distortion from the lights and not enough diffusion.

So the solution was to go with clear base and a colored cover. Im using a matte black and I think it will be a lot closer to the black plastics with a semi gloss clearcoat. This also gives the alternative to paint it to match another cover.

Right now it will still need a glue to hold them together. I want to redo how they connect to give more support towards the edges.

I'll probably end up making two different versions of the base. one will have a smaller hole for normal led strips where you feed the wires through. The other has a larger hole to feed the led strip through. This is because the switch back strips have a chip in line and it cant really be feed through the hole.

decided to test out how the heat would affect the pla print. it did not end up good. warped real easily. I really wanted to make this a removable piece but it seems like it will have to be epoxied in place if I dont use a more heat resistant plastic.

On a side note, any suggestions for a filler material so I can sand these thing super smooth on the top? I'm ok with the clear part being a little textured but to make the paint match, its going to need to be real smooth.

The Led one is sick. I would be happy to print once you are done with the design. I can even send you a couple i would print on my Bambu P1S or H2S. I usually print outdoor stuff in Matte Petg but have also printed a lot of stuff that will be around high temps in ASA-CF, ABS or Pa6-cf.

I’m just not that creative. I’ve never once looked at that side dingle and thought,
‘I gotta change that’
Altho,
Having it glow like a side marker would be functional.
Might stop a crazy no looker lane changer.
