Had same problem in October when I filled it too full one time, after the first click. I was doing a cross country trip to west coast and knew fuel prices would go up on next fillup so try to get the most gas in it at the last cheap gas station. Took forever to fill the next few gas stations because it kept clicking off before it was even half full. At first I thought it was the gas station but each one did the same. Took about 3 to 4 fill ups to resolve. Had light on dash about 200 miles later and also for some reason the fuel door was problematic to open at same time. Once light went out on dash, I was able to refill like normal again. Also fuel door started working fine again. Always remove pump at first click.

Yes, do this. It's not just a Maverick issue. I constantly topped up on my 2016 F-150, not realizing my mistake, resulted in EVAP code, Extremely slow fuel fill. $750 later problem fixed at a local shop, dropping fuel tank, much labor, parts replacement. Ford dealership wanted about twice the cost. STOP filling when the pump shuts off. Trying to get the most miles per tank is a futile effort, doesn't effect MPG.

My buddy is having a helluva time fueling his 2025 Ecoboost Lariat BAP.

Nozzle shuts off and is super hard to restart. He gets one quarter of a tank in after much trouble. He talked to the dealer, I haven’t seen him since.

Penny for your thoughts.
Hahaha the new fangled 2025 fuel gage messed with this 74 yr old retired Lawyer. It was an almost full tank that he could only get 2 gallons in.

Jeez~o~Pete, old people,,
Wait a sec, I resemble that remark !

The 2025 Fuel Gauge takes getting used to for sure I've mentioned it before and I don't care for it as well as the Tachometer. One time You look at the fuel gauge and It's full look again 5 minutes later and it's down an 1/8 of a tank.

I recently filled my new Lariat Hybrid (<1500 mi), being sure to stop when the pump stopped (ie not topping off). Within a handful of miles, I was at the next tick below full (7/8). I know the concerns for overfilling, but I’m going to try a single top-off next time. The hybrid tank is small enough as it is without not filling it all the way.

My 2025 Mav Lariet Hybrid doesn't exhibit that gas tank anomaly, going from full to 7/8 quickly - unless it really wasn't filled as expected due to pump fill sensor triggering premature shutoff, or sloping ground, either effecting precise fill level. I don't squeeze more fuel in after shutoff. And gage itself is probably non-linear. Not to worry it all balances out over time.

My 2cents after 60 yeas of driving multiple manufactures cars, Escorts, Pinto, Explorer, F150, Maverick KIA, BMW, Lincoln.

I had always kept filling after the first click, wife is a nut with this puts 2 plus gallons in, I get tired of waiting some times click, click, click.

Never had an issue. I would guess it's really something else, repair shops give you a reason so it makes sense. Or more $$$ in their pocket.

Worked at Ford emission lab (70's) for a spell we would intentionally contaminate carbon canisters to see how long it would take to purge and if there was a higher emission numbers on startup.

Maybe things are different in the 21st century.

I usually put a Dollar more in it after the 1st click.
