I have a 2025 FX4. Never taken a vehicle offroad before. Does anyone have experience on an ORV trail with the Fx4 and stock tires?
Any MI trails someone could recommend for a trail noob? Thanks!

AT tires would make a big difference but regardless air down and you'll be okay for most light soft roading.

Thanks, long term I'd like to swap out the tires for something more aggressive, maybe a leveling kit or a 2" lift. But I want to keep it light...I just don't want to go on a light/moderate trail and get stuck in the mud.

Wasn't sure if anyone here has had much experience with a Maverick offroad.

You can get yourself stuck in anything. The Maverick is not a rock crawling/low speed vehicle and don't treat it as such but going out on some rutted out dirt/mud trails that are traveled and "maintained" you should have zero issues.

Have you driven forest/logging roads? Start with those if you haven't driven much off-pavement.
Many ORV routes have highly variable conditions depending on the weather. A dry easy trail can turn into a muddy mess after a storm. When in doubt, ask around locally.

I have not, but logging roads are where I'd like to start. Thanks!

Are the FX4s still coming with the Pirelli Scorpion AS? If so, those things didn't last long at all. I lost wet traction at around 10-12k miles in.
Seems like some people like them, but I agree with you. My tires had 10,000 miles on them when I bought my truck, but I found the OEM Scorpions to be rather shitty even on wet roads, much less mud and slop. Really looking forward to some Wildpeak Trails next.

I have Nitto Nomad Grapplers on my FX4. They are quiet, handle very well and are great on dry pavement, loose gravel and dirt/rocks, heavy rain and snow. I would purchase them again. I can’t speak to the OEM Pirelli tires as the dealership put the Nittos on before I picked up my truck.

Getting rid of the stock Pirelli slicks will be the best and biggest upgrade to your truck.

I recommend looking at weight closely. The more the tire weighs, the more you'll feel the hit to acceleration and MPGs.

I'm a massive fan of my Toyo AT3s. Have easily over 2000 miles on forest service roads up here in Washington in snow, mud, gravel, etc.

Try to find a local offroading club or forum to get some leads on trails and recommendations. Some jeep people will probably make snide comments about "wannabe 4x4s" or whatnot but in my experience most folks are more interested in helping new people join the fun safely.

My FX4 has done great on off-road trails in the summer, then unplowed seasonal roads in the winter. I did however also ditch the stock Pirelli ATRs and went with Firestone Destination AT2s, along with a level kit.

OP, I see your location says SW Michigan. It'd be a little north of you, but there's plenty of ORV trails and forest roads in the Baldwin area thanks to the Manistee National Forest. I used to dirt bike those roads and trails, still ride them in the winter on snowmobiles too as many of them are part of the snowmobile trail system in the wintertime. Other than some rogue muddy spots, there's nothing on those roads and trails that a Maverick couldn't get through!
