Hi all,

Got my Mav about three weeks ago (off someone from Reddit, which is a longer story). I’ve been lurking here since the Mav launched and am excited to be able to actually post.

I’’m looking for advice on my fuse box layout. I’m going to be doing the following mods over time (some already started, some I won’t do for a year), and I’m looking for advice on how to plan out which fuses I tap. I have downloaded the fuse diagram, and have been making notes. My hope is to not have to “undo” things later on
  • Dash Cam (already installed thinkware 200 pro, running on 12v right now, will tap into fuse box soon as I do want parking mode)
  • Possibly the Kia mirror
  • Mode module that shifts automatically to your desired mode
  • Adaptive cruise control (have ’22 XLT with copilot 360)
  • Open Pilot
My idea is to also add a grounding terminal. My hope is to set myself up for future success. Also, for all of these mods I have been following write-ups on this forum, so thank you to the giants whose shoulders I am standing on.

If you are happy with 12hr parking mode you can just use the Garmin OBD2 connector which has 10min, 12hr, and constant power options for 2 USB plugs.

If you want parking mode for more than 12 hours and don't want a dead 12V battery, I would suggest budgeting for a dedicated USB battery. There are dashcam specific solutions but you can also just wire in whatever size lithium power bank you want, Anker or whatever, and mount it in the glovebox, behind the center console, or if it's slim enough, possibly in the area where the BCM fuse panel is located. There are numerous unused 12V constant fuses to tap. You don't want 12V switched for a parking mode dashcam.

Next...

I am not a fan of bolt-on ACC but people have done it. However after you've done it, you do not want to downgrade to Comma.

Comma only uses cameras (last I looked, exactly 1 camera). Ford ACC uses radar and a camera.

EDIT 9/8/23: I'm wrong, Comma v3 now has 2 external cameras and one driver-facing internal, and it does use Ford's native ACC (which is the cp360 windshield camera and the ACC radar). There's a good thread about it here:

Happy with regular cruise control. But I use trail control more often.

and the nice thing there is that you can mount the dash cam above the OBD2 port in the upper left corner of your windshield.... 10 minute, clean installation to include hiding the wire. When you hide the wire under the A-pillar trim just don't cross the air bag half way up...

I've got Garmin 67W's in multiple vehicles and power them all that way, quick, easy, and clean installation

I’ve been hesitant to use the OBD because other mods that I mentioned seems to potentially use it. Plus I already have the Thinkware installed, though perhaps the Garmin connector is also compatible with that. The idea of adding a battery is an interesting one I hadn’t considered. I’ll explore that a bit. I have the hardwire kit that comes with a fuse and the cigarette lighter one. I suppose I could get a usb kit to connect it to the battery, and then hardwire the battery so it charges when car is on? Though after going through all that - wouldn’t a fuse be easier from the get go?

My initial question had been to get some advice on how to allocate the fuses given the mods I want, but this advice seems to go a new direction.

Thanks for your comments on Commaai. I definitely want ACC and obviously only have one way to add that on. I’ve been reading on all three - ACC, BlueCruise and Open Pilot. My understanding is that there’s no way to install BlueCruise on the Mav. Open Pilot has peaked my curiousity, but cost wise, it’s awhile down the road. I appreciate the perspective you offered on it.

This thread points a little towards the “fuse mapping” I was considering. Basically how to allocate my fuses

with today's electronic controlled cars I'd consider a separate fuse/relay box.
Amazon has a large selection.

Very interesting. Hadn’t see that before. I found this video, which has him adding it to the engine bay.

Is the idea to add an additional one of these to the fuse box in the passenger side or do as the video did:

There is definitely no way to install BlueCruise on any Ford that doesn't offer it from Ford. That's probably a vehicle down the road for everyone, as I don't see it getting added on to existing Mavericks even if Ford were to start selling it as an option in MY2025.

The risk/reward of Comma is not there for me. Ford can do better and I can either buy a vehicle with BlueCruise, or live without traffic light recognition / stop & go.

I view "autopilot" driving tech as complimentary to the "human pilot." Its like Captain Planet, our powers combined
