Gas is much more expensive in Canada too, and here in Victoria BC where the city is small and weather is mild, you can't throw a stone without hitting three EVs. We are certainly dominated by Left-coast Liberals who leverage an EV as status, but the vehicles truly pay for themselves several times over.

Move up to the interior of the Province or the prairies where the winters are cold and the drives are very long, you see very few of them. Even a gas F150 gets acceptable highway mileage these days, plus all the big vehicle benefits including space/cargo and 'unlimited range'. The EV/PHEV just doesn't pay off for most families up there, and there is still a rural 'identify' that encourages full-size trucks and SUV's for image as much as function.

The european travel distances and urban densities are much more conducive to limited-range vehicles that maximize mileage, and are parkable in tight streets like here in Victoria. And if Jeremy Clarkson has taught me anything, they frown on folks who try to wedge American-sized cars into cobblestone alleys! lol
Yeah, EVs make a lot of sense. No idea how expensive electricity is in BC, but down here in Washington it's relatively cheap.

And if you get a used EV, it's an even better deal.

One used EV thing I’ve read about, but put a grain of salt on this. It is not recommended to use superchargers all the time for the battery’s sake. So used “rental” EVs (and there’s a lot of them) live on “supercharger only” charging. I think I saw this in a Tesla manual also.

Are there a lot of diesels in the interior BC? North American diesel prices are crazy so you may not get the euro $$ benefits in the “frozen tundra🥶”.
Less and less, as gas engines like ecoboost are starting to produce comparable power and Diesel isn't cheaper than gas anymore - hasn't been for a while. Albertans still love their Diesel Pickup Trucks though! Again, as much image as function...

Dad, ya gotta get with the times: a) the infrastructure IS in place, ya just gotta look it up on your apps, & b) the range on EVs has increased dramatically esp for smaller vehicles like Mav sized.
Many of the charge stations don't work and are missing parts. Do I want to spend 50 minutes charging or 10 minutes or less to fill my tank?
BTW, fossil fuels are used to not only generate electricity, but also in the manufacturing of those charging stations and CA has all but abandoned their fossil fuel industry, so not every state has a reliable in-place infrastructure. I didn't intend to introduce politics into the conversation, but difficult to do when talking about switching over to an EV. Many considerations in play. I respect other's opinions on what works best for them. I'll leave it at that.

I'll take 10 minutes or less to fill my tank Alex. 😁

Aren't those charging cables copper?

I was factoring in wait time at the pump. Actually pumping the gas? About 2 minutes or less. Meanwhile, wait time at a charging station, if you find one that works, could be hours. Same with the time needed to charge the vehicle.
Gee whiz, Glen. I thought I wasn't going to say anymore about this! :p

I fully acknowledge EV vehicles work for a LOT of people. *Less now that the subsidies have gone away.
Those people praise EV's like the second coming.
Those same people tend to gloss over a lot of the shortcomings of an owning an EV vehicle.
On a road trip
Not charging to 100% because of the length of time. Then having to charge more often. The ridiculous notion of eating every time you're charging to pass the time...etc
And become very defensive when those shortcomings are highlighted.

*As of April 22, 2026 a report shows that electric vehicle sales dropped by 14% in the first quarter. Experts point to federal policy changes, such as the end of a $7,500 tax credit for buyers and the rollback of fuel economy rules.
And
Tesla has faced significant sales pressure, including a 24.3% crash in California registrations in Q1 2026 and a 15.6% drop in Q4 2025 global deliveries.

True enough. I suppose we might see that from more postings on this thread.
How good can a vehicle be if you have to pay people to buy it? The real reason is obvious, but I prefer not to turn this forum into a political argument. In fact, it's my vacation away from politics.

I agree with you.

What if, you don't want to stay on a leash/ pre assigned route? Like 🐑
How much of your battery capacity out of 150 mile range Maverick, are you willing to use before you want to plug-in?
Are you comfortable running it down to "25 miles" in winter/hills.
Or
You have a full charge. You've driven 25 miles out of town and you come upon these signs.....

Is our ability to explore the country now limited to charging stations i.e. the electric leash. A good way to keep the population where you want them. Is to limit their ability to wander.
With this smiple $20 ICE Range extender and 5 gallons of gas. You can extend the range of a EcoBoost or hybrid more than 100 miles. How do you do that with an EV?

Yeah I'm old, but I still see ICE as giving a person the freedom and abilty to travel where you want. It is pretty much unlimited with gas. Very limiting with EV.
Your question, "You can extend the range of a EcoBoost or hybrid more than 100 miles. How do you do that with an EV?". You don't, which is why EV transportation is perfect for working commuters, with a garage & at home charging. My Granddaughter is single, commutes to/from hospital, never needs to drive her Hyundai EV over the road. Plus electric cost here is 11.6 cents/KWH, extremely low. For her, its perfect. But for anyone who travels out of metropolitan areas, road trips, EV is not suitable IMHO. My Mav Hybrid is Perfect for me.

Anyone out there with some insight into the chances Ford will come out with either a fully electric Maverick or a plug in Hybrid in the foreseeable future?? I’m llooking forward to the day I don’t have to stop at the gas pump any longer.
Chances are NONE.

Not sure why you haven't seen the news.

Full Electric Truck is coming mid 2027.

I guess you missed all the hype of ford what they say mid size truck EV coming in 2027 BUT end of 27 so really 28. . But what they released so far it looks more Mav size. So you will have it soon.
Wrong as Ford has stated firmly Mid 2027.
