Hello everyone,

I originally posted about my fuel line failure weeks ago on another thread and our 22' Maverick Ecoboost is still at the dealer waiting on parts. I was hoping to hear from the community if anyone else has experienced this or has any knowledge about it.

On December 25, 2023 our Maverick lost power and shut off. We were unable to get to the next side street and unable to put the truck in neutral to push it so we were stopped on a two lane road near midnight for a couple hours in the rain waiting for a tow truck. We popped the hood open and immediately got a strong fuel smell. We tried starting it again and gas started spraying out of the fuel line in the engine bay so we shut it off immediately. The engine was at or near normal operating temp and I was concerned about a potential fire. The truck was towed to the dealer and they confirmed the fuel line had cracked. It's been close to 5 weeks since it arrived at the dealer and still no updates and no parts.

Does anyone have any input on this? I'm hoping Ford Motor Company could look into this and give us more information than what our dealer can.

Thanks everyone!

I'll tell you what I tell everyone that gets the middle finger form Ford: start reading your state's lemon laws and file a claim.

You'll either get your vehicle fixed or your money back.

I filed a lemon claim and got my truck fixed plus 5k for my trouble. I bought the extended warranty with the money.

According to what I've found and how I'm understanding the laws in my state, it looks like we're already knocking on the door of being eligible to file a claim. I'll definitely continue researching this option. Thank you!

That last part isn't a surefire thing. Depending on the state's lemon laws they may not get full reimbursement for fees and may be deducted a use charge. Plus then they're back in the market for vehicles that haven risen in price and may have substantially higher financing costs.

I'm defintely going to look into this further. It's unfortunate you had to do that but I'm glad we have some protection as a consumer

The worst part was driving a crappy Rogue for over 2 months! My truck has been great since.

What am I missing here? It's a fuel line for the love of God. Most likely stainless steel, although I do not know that as fact but that should make no difference. What is so hard about having a fuel line fabricated and installed? What's next, months at the dealer for a brake line?

You'd figure that supply chain issues should be ironed out by now, but I guess not. Several years ago, I bought a brand new car a few months after it was released in the US. The blend door was broken and it took maybe 6 months for the parts to show up.

I filed a lemon claim and got my truck fixed plus 5k for my trouble. I bought the extended warranty with the money.
I took my chances and bought a lemon law buyback vehicle for a song, and it turned out to be a dead-beat reliable car.

Bought it from a franchised dealership (sells new and used cars) too, which was interesting. I thought reputable dealerships wouldn't sell lemon law buybacks, but I guess as long as it has a clean title and they think they can profit from a sale, they'll buy 'em at auction.

There are also certain dealerships that are set up to receive lemon vehicles after the manufacturer has repaired them. One of the Ford dealerships in my area tends to have a number of buyback vehicles (including some Hybrid Mavericks).

Lol I'm glad i'm not the only one thinking this. What really surprises me is that last year a large tree branch went through the window and cracked the dash so insurance paid for an entire new dash (all of it is one big piece) and the dealership received it in 1-week but this fuel line seems to be the more difficult part!

Until I bought that buyback, I thought lemon law buybacks were destroyed or scrapped.

I was not informed of what caused the buyback, just that it was a buyback. My best guess is that it was something comfort/convenience related. It run and drove, didn't leak fluids, didn't leak water when it rained, heater blew hot, A/C blew cold, radio worked, windows worked, locks worked, tires wore evenly. Couple squeaks and rattles, but nothing out of the realm for a typical used car. Can't say the same for my F-250, and that was a one-owner clean-title!

I just had a similar issue. This is after stopping. There was fuel everywhere and dripping from the hood.
