Question for the smarter folks here.
As I think we can probably agree Ford's tend to rust out from the inside pretty bad. Think of the old rangers and 150's. Total rust buckets.
I've been under my Maverick looking around. Looks like a lot of painted metal ready for some good winter rust out.
Has anyone looked into what the modern version of Ziebart undercoating is? Has anyone had their undercarriage coated or used a rattle can they've been happy with?

Every truck that is used like a truck rusts out if it isnt maintained meticulously.

I Ziebarted my truck... got a great deal on it via dealership, much cheaper than going to the same Ziebart location on my own. Covers yearly reapply. I picked my Maverick up on 25 Nov 2022, and lice in Indiana. I have noticed no rust when I have looked under it doing mods, or when it is on my friends lift.
I am happy thus far as here they salt the roads, and it made it through this past winter with no signs of rust. Included was also Ziebarts interior stain protection, coffee hasn't stained it. Overall I am happy thus far, but glad I didn't pay Ziebarts price for the package.

Even vehicles maintain meticulous rust out if not protected.

My 2014 Flex was maintained and the tailgate hinges were rusting out..

I have decided to use Krowns . I will have my Mav sprayed when I hopefully get it at beginning of August. July 10 build date. Many discussion on rust proofing . Ziebart is the thick black stuff and many claim it rust under it then flakes off,. Krowns is an oil based stuff and is resprayed each year. about $160 for the Mav. I am going with that. Buffalo NY area. You can buy it and spray it yourself BUT not for me I will have it done.

A guy that used to work for me owned a car repair business. I have rust proofed a vehicle I bought in 2017 and it still looks okay after 6 winters in the rust belt. Anyway, I told him I thought this Maverick will be a rust bucket in short order if I don't do something. He suggested I look into "Gravel Guard."
It is sprayed on and if you ever saw a car with a rough appearing lower rocker panel, that was it. I know my 77 and 81 Accords had it. I have an 83 Dodge D-150 that was Ziebarted when new and it does not have any rust problems at 102,000 miles. I think that rust proofing the underside of a Maverick will be quite a challenge getting to all the places that need attention, because there is so much stuff in the way. Let's fae it, a car company COULD build a vehicle that would last a lot longer if they did the right thing at the right spot on the production line. But, would it help their bottom line?

I will ve going the "Krown" route. I picked up a 2011 Kia Soul to get by until the Maverick was delivered. I had to get the exhaust repaired on the Kia and the tech was very surprised at the condition of the underside, absolutely no rust (except the exhaust pipe). Even the bottom of the doors, clean except the oily film. The Carfax report showed that it had been at Krown every year. I'm sold.

My Ziebart isn't a black coating. It is oil based and resprayed every year.

Check out farm project on YouTube. He did some experiments with rust prevention products

Why can't it be made like boats with sacrificial anodes/zinc?

Did you keep the hinges greased and touch up the paint on em that wore out through use?
I think were talking about the same thing. I will be doing some things to the underside of mine. Gotta get it home and evaluate it first.

My Flex? I rarely used the rear hatch. When I noticed it, I applied rust converter, and resealed it.

I have no issues on my Maverick.
