Working in the business, I would not own ANY new car past the warranty period and without a factory extended warranty, unless you are someone flush with cash. It is an insurance plan, and you may never use it. But the likelihood of having to replace a head on one of these post warranty is pretty high. A/C compressor failure, trans or diff failure. Any of these things could cost you thousands out of pocket if you don't have that ESP. It is a really good plan, especially if you can buy the plan at a discount. That said, I always recommend buying just before the base warranty expires in case you end up changing your mind about keeping this vehicle long term.

Pay special attention to what mileage you choose, and be sure to add the lighting option (usually less than $50).

I bought an ESP 8 yr/48k for my 2017 C-Max. I am now 5 years in and have 25k miles on it. If I sell it after my Maverick arrives (within 10 days), someone will be able to have 3 year warranty transferred, for 23k more miles. Really adds to the value.

Since the Maverick will be used similarly, I'll buy a 10 yr/48k with $50 deductible for about $950. I plan to buy it just before I hit 12 months/12k miles, as, barring sporadic Ford price increases, buying it then costs the same as buying it day 1. Cheap piece of mind for 10 years...as an LED light assembly costs more to replace than the entire warranty. My 2020 Transit was $1700+ install...thank goodness that was under original warranty.
I'm getting a quote for 10y/48k at $2,300 at https://fordprotect.ford.com/premiumcare
Then I went to the Granger site and it's around $1,000. Why is there such a big difference?

Because MOST dealers mark these up, because it is a nice profit tool for finance. Granger sells them near cost. Though 10y/48k sounds very odd. I don't remember that ever being an option.

Because Granger is selling for $50 over cost, while Ford is selling the same thing with a big retail markup. And it makes your dealers price look reasonable...when it isn't. Compare Granger, Flood, Anderson &Koch and they will be similar, but Granger has been the best. It is the same computer entry into the big Ford computer that identifies what warranty you have.

It still seems super odd to me. Extended warranties are written in such a way that is confusing for many. That 48k is your mileage cap, yes? Not 48K beyond the 36k factory warranty? If so, you got 7 more years but only 12k more miles?

Is it not more expensive if you buy it late in your original warranty period?

I agree, that doesn't sound right. Most people would drive far more than 48K in 10 years.

Nope. Price is the price as long as you are within the base warranty period.
oh ok well thank you for that.

I would buy an ESP from one of these dealers but unfortunately I live in Florida, and like everything else, they find a way to screw you. Will probably wait until close to the warranty expiration and see what I could get.

You should be able to buy from one of those dealers even though you live in Florida.

I would wager that if you call some dealers you can find better deals. I def do not recommend buying until close to expiration of the base warranty in case you decide you want another vehicle. Unless buying one with cash is just not an option and it needs to be financed in the deal
