And adding a reverberator to get Hifi sound! Good stuff.
Had reverb (mechanical!) in my ‘65 T-Bird. When the car went over railroad tracks, there would be such popping until the springs settled down!

That's nothing, after that tires will be dropped. All you need is rims after all!

Optional add-ons for MY24
  1. Doors $5k
  2. Windows $2k
  3. Key Fobs $400
  4. Rear View mirror $100
  5. Tires $1k
  6. Tailgate $1k
  7. LED Headlights $1k
  8. Steering wheel $300
  9. Accelerator and Brake peddles $250
  10. The Bed $5k
This escalated awfully quickly from AM radio being removed from, so far, only F-150 Lightning. You ok?

It's called sarcasm. I've got my 22 Maverick, what Ford drops now isn't my problem.
Actually, it's just trolling at this point. You've got yours, you should be happy, and yet...?

Yet what? Because I have mine I have to be an old stick in the mud who cannot poke fun at Ford? Who are you to tell me if I'm happy or not. Get a life.

Clear station, there's a few around the country. Go Cards

We can always carry a Stoney Walkman portable radio. Also AM radio signal travels further than FM. KMOx in St Louis is 50000Watts. I have picked it up at night in Killeen Texas to listen to Cardinal baseball. This is to push you to buy sirsus radio. I do not listen to the radio very much. I. Have the music on my radio I want to listen to. But in a emergency I want AM radio.

Chevy volt has AM. Doesn't FCC regulate emissions from radio sources already?

Manufacturers are moving to remove AM for technical reasons. With more electrification, there is more RF noise generated, much of which ends up in the lower bands blocking AM reception. It started first on electric cars, now moving mainstream as more processors, big screens and other stuff shows up. No way the manufactures are spending the money to really quiet down the spurious emissions.

Its unfortunate for rural users, but it’s an artifact of the digital age.

Can we confirm the 2023 Maverick still has AM? Serious here, Canada still has lots of dead cell areas likely similar to the mid west US.

How about they leave a blank space in the dash and we'll buy whatever sound/infotainment system we want and install it ourselves?
That is the best idea that I have seen posted.
So... many things are digital and driver's aided, what ever happened with being part of the driving experience?
My first car did not have power steering or disk breaks that was extra. (1970 Plymouth Duster 340)
I wanted my Maverick to be a base model just so I would have less things to go wrong.

I would rather have AM radio than a stupid 14” computer screen screwing up my interior. Drive the car and get off the damn internet. No wonder they need lane assist. Too many distracted drivers.
Right on! :)

The FCC does have spurious emission standards for digital devices, but with so many devices so close to the receiver, it’s not enough to prevent interference, which usually shows up as reduced sensitivity. The biggest problem is all the digital clocks and busses. It takes a lot of shielding, chokes, clock frequency changes and attenuation to prevent impacts. At some point it becomes uneconomic to try keeping AM reception clear, so it’s easier to drop AM receivers.

GM probably did a lot to keep the AM radio working in the Volt, but I suspect even it faces some desensitisation. And there are more digital modules in newer vehicles. Best enjoy the volt whilst you still have it!

I have not even gotten my 2022 Maverick and yet Ford just keeps on taking. Can I get anything from Ford? How about a hug Ford, not a kick in the ass!

Ah... you refuted your own comment without realizing it here: "if it has a tower to ping". Cell tower coverage isn't ubiquitous. See, because they are put up by companies who do everything they do to make a profit. In sparsely populated areas (or even areas with RF challenging geography, more on this later) the cell phone companies don't think that they would recoup the cost of both installing but also maintaining a cell tower from customers in the area. Thus there are plenty of areas without towers to ping.

Regarding the RF challenging geography. Where I work is just outside of Wilmington, DE. Not a rural area by any stretch of the imagination (in fact only a mile or two from Biden's home). My business is near to a fairly large corporate park, with a fairly busy state road passing through the area that leads into Wilmington. Cell service sucks at and around my job. My wife calls the area "that road with the dead zone" where she expects to drop calls when driving through. My fellow employees (and my employer) have asked the various cell phone companies to set up towers to cover this dead area. They have all refused giving the excuse that they wouldn't get enough new customers to justify the expense. I haven't asked the other businesses, but I expect they also were fed the same line from the cellular companies.
Well I did say I wasn't a techie.
